Hi George, I'm glad your advice has worked for you. It has not for me. I have twice gone to the genius bar at my local Apple Store where my iPad 1 has been wiped (both software and firmware), restored as a new iPad and I've done a "clean" reinstall. Exactly as you recommend. It doesn't fix a thing. The third time I returned to the Genius Bar, a third genius told me that it was clearly a software issue that Apple has to address and create a fix for. He suggested that I turn my iPad off and back on often and to make sure my iPad was set to issue automatic reports to Apple. He assured me that programmers do look at these reports as he had had direct experience with them doing so when he was in Cuppertino.

As an aside and as further evidence that this is not a ram issue (as was discussed in much earlier posts here) my iPhone 4 has the same reloading of cached pages as my iPad. I hadn't noticed it earlier because I don't regularly read web pages on my iPhone. Recently, I went to a bookmarked website, followed a link on that site, navigated back to the first website and a two day old page was loaded.

This is a buggy iOS. It needs to be fixed by Apple.

I've been running without the autocorrect service switched on for the past day or so and so far had no crashes. I actually prefer it as well as it pops up with a word(s) to choose instead of just abitrarily sticking something random in there.

    So far so good.

I was a "views" statistic.  I have read every single post including the one that says views don't count. So now Iam logged in. I stood in line on day one for iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, and iPhone 4S launches. I also bought my first MacBook Pro a few months ago.  I have experienced most all of the problems stated in the forum, including Safari crashes on content heavy sites and old pages being brought back up when I use the back button on news sites. Sights such as Techcrunch, techradar, and southwest air are guaranteed to crash every single time.

What ha helped is the suggestion to clear the helper apps in Spotlite Search (but then do an immediate reboot / power down.  For the first time since iOS 5, I can now go to those websites mentioned without a crash. I don't know what will happen after several hours of use or the next day.  But if the problem comes back, I'm guessing a power down will clear it up.  I wll follow up and let you know.

Also, Opera never crashed and flew like a bulllet. It won't show all the graphics but shows most of the pages correctly.

Regarding turning off the helper apps in Spotlite, you will still have the search functionality within your applications.

    Job done :)

I can confirm it is on replying to forums.  I finally had to look online here to figure out *** was going on.  On one reply I had typed probably close to 200 words including urls to hosted pics and pasted links and the freaking thing crashed on me deleting all i has typed.  I am not happy about this.  I should not have to turn off auto correct to fix this.  Apple should fix this ASAP!!

In fact, until they get it fixed I'd love directions to downgrade my firmware.  TIA

I wanted to represent one of the 38k "views" and say that there was no need to write a "me too" post as the issue I/we are facing is represented just fine. The "views" are seeing that others are indeed having this issue since the iOS 5 upgrade and perhaps looking for a solution.

I just bought the iPad2 several days ago and the IOS version is 5.0.1, after I installed some apps, set up an email, turn on iCloud, then when I opened the safari, I even cannot type any words on URL or Google search fields! It just hanged and then after some seconds, jump to the home screen. But if I open the bookmark and choose any one website link, the website can be accessed and I can browse it without problem. The safari will be hanged again if I tried to click the URL field!!  My case is just a little bit different from you all, but seems is a safari problem undoubtedly.

    http://www.itjungles.com/ipad-tips/ipad-2-how-to-hard-reset-on-ipad-2

Bigheadboy, go to the above site address. Try the "other things" first, mentioned in the arrive and after each try do a power down.  If none work try the hard reset described. As it is new, you don't have it loaded up with tons of data yet.  But if you downloaded a bunch of new applications, some could affect the settings. Let us know if this worked.

PS read the manual so you will know the difference between a sleep versus powerdown versus hard reset.  Good luck.

Thanks for your help! I finally fix my problem. The reason is I have sync my safari bookmark from my iPhone 4S using iCloud, which made my safari hanged. After I cleared all my bookmarks, the problem is gone!

I have been following this topic since updating to iOS 5. While my Safari on my iPad 2 is not crashing constantly, it does crash on certain pages as well as whenever I'm entering text into forum replies. Also, several forums and pages only show the viewable area. If you try to scroll down, there is nothing there. You need to rotate the screen, then back again for it to be fully viewable. (This exact same issue is on the iPhone iOS version of safari.)

I've tried the solutions suggested. I've also removed the spell check and that works only as long as I'm typing with the on-screen keyboard. If I use my Apple Bluetooth keyboard, it will crash eventually mid reply. Again, this has to be some sort of software/memory issue. I type very fast and I suppose it just can't handle it. The sad thing is, prior to updating to iOS 5, I was able to type with either my Bluetooth or the onscreen as fast as I was able and I never had any crashes on forums. It's gotten to the point that I only browse with the iPad and have to get out my Macbook Pro to actually respond.

I just want to reiterate that this is not a hardware issue. It's a software one as many have stated. Taking your iPads to the Genius Bar is a waste of time, they can't really do anything (I've tried). We are all just going to have to keep hanging in there and hope the next version update fixes the issues.

I also wanted to say something to Hank (I think that was your name). When Apple fixes this, you and your company will enjoy the iPad. I hope that by the time they do get around to it though, it's not too late & you have moved on. Having seen first hand a wide scale company implementation using proprietary apps, I can say that it does add a lot to a business.

Copy, paste a mine reply (on 18th October):

"It occurs normally when I am typing long text in a web (forum, etc)"

I always has thought this is a problem with the keyboard and some webs (forum webs).

There is 2 Safari crashes types:

-the first one is addressed with a iPad restauration (new iPad)

-the second one is when I am typing long texts in a web (faster typing). There's no solution with this mistake...

There is a bug with Safari and the new iOS 5, and Apple must to address it.

    Sorry for my english

Ohh, I forgot it, there is more mistakes on Safari:

-Sometimes YouTube embebed videos are not played (black video, only audio is shown)

-"Back Safari button" is not always working appropriately

Yes, you are correct Fbetes. I experience those often as well. Usually, refreshing/re-loading the page will get the embedded videos to play correctly. The back button on the browser issue I have yet to find a solution for.

I think the gist of it is simply that it needs fixed. While I love the features iOS 5 brought, if I could I think I would downgrade back to iOS 4. If only to have full functionality back until they resolved the issues with iOS 5.
