Jan 15, 2012 7:40 PM in response to Philly_Phanby steeleblue,Don't know about anyone else but I want to keep mine because I paid in excess of $800 for it and screen protectors, cases, etc. It worked just fine until the latest OS. So I pretty much assume people are like me and don't want to sell at a loss. They just want it to work.
It's fortunate for you and the others that have no issues. But many do. It should not be out-of-line to report and ask for a resolution. And as an FYI, I didn't see where Marty's response could be called anything near a rant. It simply reported what he did, what his statements were, and a response from Apple. To be honest, that's more than any of the rest of us have gotten. At least it's good to know that they do realize there is an issue for many of their users.
I have worked in IT for 25+ years. Not acknowledging or addressing an issue that many users have is not acceptable. Apple is know for their penchant for secretiveness. Too many people give them a pass because they seem to come through with fixes eventually. Let's hope that is the case this time.

Jan 15, 2012 7:41 PM in response to Philly_Phanby keys1980,I don't understand people who have functioning products who harp on those who have troubles.
When I come across people who have issues with products I have that work fine I don't even flinch. I just carry on enjoying my functions product, feeling lucky to be trouble free. I don't discount their issues and dump all over them. Ie kick them when they are down.
I'm sorry Philly. Sorry you don't have the self confidence it takes to enjoy your functions product while others have troubles. That must be hard for you.
Ill just agree to disagree though. We are strange in your eyes and you are strange in ours. No big deal.
Thanks Marty for your help. Your updates are the first bit of evidence apple is aware and working towards a solution.

Jan 15, 2012 7:46 PM in response to Philly_Phanby Hank LV,The issue is productivity and addressing my customer's needs. As far as my company's productivity goes, it's not like we had woking iPads that now don't work like many posting on this thread. We never had working iPads to begin with as we started with iOS 5.0.0.
Regarding happiness, I'm happy to tell my customers that iPads don't presently work with our (W3C compliant) web based products because it is broken. I'm happy to tell them to wait until Apple fixes the problem. I'm happy to tell them to take the matter up with Apple as I have and listen to the crickets chirp. It's really not my problem to fix. I thought I might try to find a solution on the outside chance there might be one because I happen to think that forums are a wealth of information (most of the time) and that proactivity is the way to get results (most of the time). But if you really think that the ideal solution is to sell off the iPads on eBay as you have suggested, what does that really say about Apple products?

Jan 15, 2012 7:46 PM in response to Philly_Phanby cynthiafromNB,Philly_Phan, Are you telling us that you have no understanding of why someone who has previously loved a product, has many hundreds of dollars invested in that product, has after a software upgrade experienced major problems, who understands that software problems happen and that that owner might decide to wait for a fix to that problem before selling it on eBay. It might be instructive for you to know that there are people out in the big world who are different from you. That these people don't post for no reason.

Jan 15, 2012 7:59 PM in response to JP_Seoulby McQ14,Yep, I got the same notification, and by the time I logged in here, Martin's post was gone. Seems rather at odds with what Apple says they want to do about acknowledging issues and making us feel like they're empathizing with us.
Here's the other thread, where the post was deleted: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3116044?start=0&tstart=0
As you can see, my post from Jan 5 is now the last post in that thread.
Marty, thanks for sending the letter and for corresponding with Apple directly.
I hope this gets fixed, because after doing all the things most of us have done (and what I described in the other thread), I was given a new iPad from my Apple Store and guess what? Yeah, the new one crashes just like the one they replaced for me.
I don't know what to do anymore. I'm sure as heck not going to buy the Next Gen iPad in order to "fix" the problem, that's for certain.

Jan 15, 2012 8:00 PM in response to Philly_Phanby keys1980,It made me feel a bit better. So yes.
Really though I care very little. There are other options. My wife has a playbook I bought her to use as an e reader. It was an eye opener. I quite like it. Nothing like being spurned by a lover to push you into the arms of another.
I posted here to help. Squeaky wheeled gets the Greece and all that. More complaints equals faster resolution.
I just find you so offensive I couldn't help but jump back in.
I should know better. One thing I have learned in life is you can't out crazy crazy. I suspect you suffer from some sort of social retardation. I should help you not make fun.

Jan 15, 2012 8:12 PM in response to Philly_Phanby McQ14,I did this, after trying everything else that Apple had told me to do to fix it. After three separate trips to the Apple Store in Lancaster, PA, and three complete Restores, nothing stopped it from crashing. They replaced my first gen iPad.
New iPad did the same thing. I've now had the new replacement for ten days, and it crashes just as good as the one Apple replaced. So what do people like me do, except come here looking for better answers than what Apple Tech folks give me?
I thought Marty's post was awesome. At least he got someone at Apple to acknowledge some issue with this. I'm stuck with a malfunctioning "new" iPad, and I'm sure not going to fix the problem by buying an iPad2 or the next gen when it comes out.
I love Apple, Mac stuff, like most of us here. Almost all of my Apple products work well. But am very frustrated with the gear not working correctly and not being able to get a real solution from the maker of the product.

Jan 15, 2012 8:49 PM in response to petemj23by RC1952,I read Martins post and thought it was a great effort by him to get that response.
But i must admit i had doubts about whether Apple would follow through, they would just say anything to get some one off their back, so i will believe it when i see it,
Given the post got deleted perhaps reflects their reaponse :).
With the IPAD 3 on the horizon i reckon there is very little chance of them doing anything special for previous versions. If a fix comes with the IPAd 3 then we will be lucky else no joy.
The other thing that amazes me is that the press have not picked it up, i am sure this issue would make good press while Apple are touting there new IPAd or perhaps they are worried about missing out on their free ipads when it is released.

Jan 15, 2012 9:04 PM in response to RC1952by JP_Seoul,Agreed. Apple's iron grip policy on control OS-wise is backfiring for us. At least for macs we had the option of downgrading; it's not evern allowed for the iOS.
Extremely disappointed.

Jan 15, 2012 9:46 PM in response to petemj23by KaBoomBOX,I'm not sure how Martin's post could be read as "self serving rant", I've re-read and it just doesn't scan that way.
Anyways, I've been to the Apple Store twice, seen the genius, who re-set my iPad 1 as new twice. I've jumped through hoops in hopes of regaining the pre-iOS 5 stability, disabled this, not reloaded most of my apps, none this has restored stability for more than a few days.
I'm not going to spout hyperbole and say that it's unusable. It is still usable, but it isn't like it was pre-upgrade, and it is frustrating and annoying. It doesn't just work anymore.
I'm happy that there are large numbers who aren't experiencing this issue, but that doesn't mean that what I and others here are experiencing isn't real. My iPhone 4s hasn't had an issue with it's battery life like others has, yet that's a real problem for some.

Jan 16, 2012 8:43 AM in response to tasaby tom56123,Almost 2 weeks with a single crash. Sorry this didn't work for you, obviously there is another factor involved with your ipad. I did delete about half my apps since I wasn't really using most of them any ways. I also don't use the auto sync or the cloud. Maybe the less backgrounds tasks the better. I agree though, it would be nice for Apple to acknowledge this problem so people know they are at least trying to solve it.

Jan 16, 2012 9:06 AM in response to tom56123by McQ14,Tom, glad you're not experiencing the problem any more. In one of the other threads where this is also being discussed, I made note that I had been told that two apps in particular were "responsible" for the crashes. I wanted to see if you had either one on your iPad. One of the geniuses at my Apple Store told me with absolute certainty (I now know he was completely wrong) that "The Daily" app and "AppAdvice" were the culprits for all of the apps on my iPad that were crashing, including Safari.
Obviously, even the removal of these apps didn't work, neither did a complete restore as new, neither did replacing my iPad with a new one fix it.
Were either of these on your iPad?
