I have converted many DVD's and I have used videora to do so. I had converted I,Robot DVD and it took up 459MB, is that more than it should and the video goes on for for 1 hour and 48 mins. It mostly says 550kbps-600kbps. I was just wonderin cause I didn't want it taking up my iPod 😟
459 mb is half a Gig. Most of my movies in the 2 hour play time finish with a file size of around 650 mb and 800 mb. Encoders operate at various settings depending on what program you use for comversion. There is always a balance between file size and viewing quality. Cartoons or animated videos will show less artifacts than a movie with complex backgrounds. I failed to mention I convert to 480x480 pixel rate.
I use HandBrake to rip DVD movies for import into iTunes.
A recent import with a bit rate of 127kbps and a total bit rate of 485kbps, sample rate of 44.100kHz at 2:10:03 in length is 486.3 MB in size.
If you want to watch movies on your iPod, they take up a lot of disk space and even with available downward adjustments which will affect quality somewhat but probably not noticeable, you can reduce the size of a 2 hour movie only so much.
