No Way to Re-order Reminders is iOS 5 - How useless is that?

I knew the beta version of Reminders didn't allow users to update the order of items in the Reminder list, but I'm stunned that wasn't fixed in the final version. Not only that, but the Reminder priority and/or date/time has no effect on the sort order. The order of tasks remains exactly the order in which they were entered. Even with a note pad and a pen I can do better than that.

The sort order on the notifications screen is also whatever order the tasks are listed in the reminder app.

Question: Can anyone see a practical way of making reminders work without the ability to reorder them?

Yes you can.

In the Notifications area of the Settings, click on the Edit button on the upper right. This gives the usual three lines on the right of the bubbles down below. Press and hold for a moment, then you can move them. It's all good.

I have to say that for simple reminders, it's OK. If you have a list of things to do without reminders though, it is pretty worthless if your list grows beyond a few items.

I've really tried to find a way to make it work for me. I've been using ToDo, though I haven't come close to really taking advantage of its features. I thought maybe I'd be able to replace it with the new reminders app. Unfortunately, I just cant. Even messing around with priorities for tasks, I just can't find a way to make it usable. It's a shame really.

Add to that the fact that I see some really strange behavior when syncing reminders to an Exchange 2010 environment. I have an iPhone, iPad, iMac syncing to Exchange using Mail and iCal and Outlook 2011, and Outlook 2007 on the office PC.

The ONLY place the due and reminder dates and times are correct are on the device where they were first created.

I create a task for tomorrow on the phone, and it shows up as due today on the iPad. Shows as tomorrow in Outlook on the office PC, but due at midnight instead of 5:00PM. On the iPad, the reminder is set to go off a day after it's due. And it gets worse if I try to "fix" it.

Tasks synced with iCloud sync and work fine, but again, I can't really manage the things that need to get done.

I've relegated it to the last page of my iPhone and iPad along with News Stand, hoping for improvement in the future. I'll just keep using ToDo for now.

True. I just think it would be so much nicer if you could create a reminder list without having to assign a time to each one.

Does that make sense?

I hear what you are saying. But when or how do you want to be reminded of those things?

It's fine you have a number of tasks to do, but how do you define when you want a reminder?

One of the applications Apple suggest is a shopping list (this appears on the promotional material). I put things on my shopping list in the order they appear in the shop, so I don't forget anything. This means I would like to be able to change the order of items in a list!

And like KiltedTim, I don't necessarily need to be reminded, I'd just like to be able to make a list of stuff to do and swap it round. I used to do this on post it notes, and when I got an iphone I used the iphone notes app. Reminders would be PERFECT if I could just change the order!

I completely agree with BriMercer. I just got my phone yesterday, and was looking every where so see if I can rearrange reminders but didn't find any. I thought I just didn't know how to use the phone but apparently there is no such feature. What's the priority for if it doesn't do anything? It should be fixed in the later release. Where can we submit suggestions to apple?

Sometimes you need to know the order to perform your tasks. Sometimes lists have dependencies, or you might like to write a shopping list where all your fridge items are together, and cleaning items are together, being able to sort the lsit would be invaluable.

Some lists you may like to sort alphabetical, some by precedence, some by priority, for example if you wrote a reminders list for items you wish to buy on the app-store you might like to put items in the order you would like to buy them in, not the order you added them.
