my iMessage keeps turning off automatically. What am I doing wrong?
Everytime I go to settings > messages > iMessage > On
I get out of the app, and then get back on the settings... it says it's OFF again. :/ Why won't it work?
iPhone 4, iOs 5

How did you reset your settings and only your settings because i have an ipod 5 and it use to always allow messages and they use to always be on until one day when i was in texas it randomly turned off i keep trying to turn it back on and it keeps turning off
Uninstall messenger and reinstall. Uninstall by pressing any key continuously on The homepage. When the icons begin to shake and they all have an "X" scroll to messenger and tap the "X" to delete. Then reinstall messenger from the App Store and everything should work great. Worked for me.
I'm getting that as well.
I updatd my iphone 4 to ios 5 and had the problem with the encrypted backup that I never encrypted. So I had to install as a new phone. At this point iMessage seemed to be okay.
I eventually figured out how to 'unencrypt' my backup (create a new password with your current backup, and that works for the old backup!). So I reinstalled my backup and that's when my iMessage was showing like the screen cap. If I can't figure this out by tomorrow, I'll head over to my local apple store and see if they can help.
If you've turned off FaceTime, it will turn off iMessage. I turneed Facetime back on & iMessage automatically came back on.
i had this problem too, i solved it by going into settings and reseting all settings (only settings, nothing else), then when this is done it'll take you back to the welcome screen and you set your phones settings up again, all that will be reset are your settings. your content will still be there, and it'll ask you for your facetime and imessage passwords again.
Turning Facetime back on fixed the probelm with iMessage not working. Thanks,
Worked for me. Thanks
I selected Reset Settings "only" and it reset my phone to the point where I had to restore it via a backup. Was not expecting that. Had to immediately perform a backup on my PC (It was still allowing me to do so), but the end result was a little bit of a pain; having to restore all photos, music and changes made between the last backup to today.
I don't know you had to go through the same thing, but I wouldn't have done it, had I known so.
The good news, iMessage and FaceTime seems to take the Apple ID and is working fine now.
