You could try restarting the Finder...under the Apple Menu...Force Quit...Relaunch Finder
Try passing the pointer over the DEVICES in Finder. There is an option to Show/Hide the information. that has fooled many people because it itself is hidden.
Tried This no luck been into apple store and they dont know either
Thanks for that, i new about this, but might help someone else
I presume then that you have the options selected in Finder>Preferences>Sidebar😎 Yes, I write for the larger audience (I hope)...
Try this... shutdown your Mac and turn off the external drive.
Then restart, after OS had loaded, then power up drive. Check in Disk Utiltiy to see if mounted.

Tried it on my Mackbook same error, any idea's how i get the files off it ? using a PC maybe ?
Ouch! That has nothing to do with the restart or mounting the external.
Sometimes running Disk Utility a few times will fix it. Otherwise you're looking at a re-format & install, not too bad.
Then connect the other Mac via Firewire Target Disk Mode to migrate.
