I downloaded OSX 10.7.2 like the rest of the world and besides icloud conversion issues I noticed that I could not move items (files, jpg's, etc.,) from one "Space" (desktop) to another.  I've gone through all the "gesture" settings in the System prefs and there's nothing to do with it.  Using the key fuctions (Control + 1, 2, 3) still allows for moving objects while you have it selected, however if you select any object with the trackpad no gestures work.  Anyone else seen this issue? Is there a setting that I've missed?

I noticed the same.  The work-around that I am using is to drag the file to the edge of your screen, wait a second, and the "Space" will move across.  This is presumably to bring it closer to the iOS method of rearranging apps across screens.

But I'm hoping Apple will re-activate the gestures method, and allow both methods, because I liked being able to scroll through a folder while drag-and-dropping, rather than the hold-it-near-the-edge method, which is often pretty inaccurate and hard to control.

    same problem here.

i was so used to it!

another (ugly) workaround is to drag the file on the mission control icon in the dock, but i relly miss the option to use gestures while holding an object.

Thanks for the workaround suggestions, and you're right, they are ugly and no where near as effective as what Apple took away. I can't think of a single reason, let alone a good one, why they would take this feature away.  In my work I run the same file(s) through many apps before completion.  Spaces and gestures was a dream for productivity and work flow.  Without the ability to fluidly move items between spaces, or even in the finder!, using gestures makes me wonder what spaces is good for other than allowing for full-screen apps?

    Had the same issue!

Any work around other then dragging to edge? i was so used to having gesture on trackpad to move my files.

You can use (Control + #[dependent on # of spaces you have]) to switch between spaces while holding an object, but you still can't scroll or anything once your there.  I've also discovered that this takes away a lot of movement features in Filemaker Pro, and CS5.  You have to click, drag, relase, scroll, click, drag to do anything out of frame.  I'm back to a regular mouse again.  easier.

I have absolutely the same problem since the last update. However I really think it is a glitch, because after stubbornly trying dragging a file while using the multi gestures I discovered the following:

    • It works only if you grab the file in the moment you use the multi gesture. It’s like a cat and mice game :D, I wouldn’t say it is a workaround, but just a proof that probably they will fix it.

I have the same problem and I was able to do what Vladington said too. Gotta move very fast. So I agree it must be a glitch.

  • beerd Level 1 (0 points)

You have to be super fast.  Thanks Vladington.  I have hope for the glitch.

yes have to be super fast to make it work.

believe its a glitch hope apple solve it quick!

I've tested being "super fast" and Mission Control does become active, but I can't do anything with the file I'm holding on, it doesn't make any app active so I can drop it.

At least we know it's a bug (hopefully), let's wait for a bug, because being super fast didn't do it.

i have the exact same problem! Please fix this apple! I want the ability to drag files and bring up missing control with the 4 finger gesture.

Another feature I would also like to see back is the ability to drag and show desktop with a gesture. This has been something I've really missed since leopard. Anyone know how I submit this as feedback to apple? I can't find any links to submit feedback.

Drag to show desktop is possible with 5 fingers, with an "opening hand" gesture.

Closing hand with 5 fingers will restore the windows.

If you close hand with 5 fingers, you'll run launchpad.

Edit: you can also change those behaviors via System Preferences -> Trackpad

  • robnguyen Level 1 (0 points)

That doesn't work when you are trying to click and hold, and drag a file. The show desktop gesture does not work when you are click and hold and trying to drag the file. Try it

  • m.arciprete Level 1 (5 points)

oh, yes, you cannot use those features holding a file.

this has been broken by latest update (10.7.2).
