ios5 killed printing by Print and Share

New iPad2 owner, planning to travel and work using my iPad. I added the Pages and Print & Share apps for my word processing and everything was working fine. Upgraded to ios5 and can no longer print. Contacted the Print & Share vendor thinking they were not quite up to date, discovered that Apple has removed the ability for external apps to print documents!!! Really!! I not only don't have an AirPrint printer at home but consider it very unlikely that I will have one available as I travel. The only work around I can think of is emailing all my documents to myself and then printing them from the app via their email function. What a ridiculous prospect. Work processing docs or PDFs need to be printed, it is insane to assume that everyone in the world will have an aipprint enabled printer!

Any other ideas how to make this work?

I totally agree Apple need to fix this I have tried a number applications and workarounds all that are being suggested are helpful but not acceptable. I previously have spent nearly £20 evaluating all the print products and was satisfied with Print and Share and was happy that it came up as a option in all applications when I selected print. Since the upgrade I cannot print, almost makes you want to go back to the PC ! Printing anything is a basic function, if its complicated it goes against why we all love the ipad/iphone/mac etc. I recently bought an Ipad for my two sons and was considering it for my wife, which I am now reconsidering. I cant even print cbeebies web pages for my kids. SORT THIS OUT APPLE, you will have some very bad press on this one if not, you cannot take functionality like this away it is fundamental to the user experience.

Yours a disgruntled Apple User !

Dave,

I have contacted EuroSmartz multiple times. They explained the issue with the app is Apple's decision to not enable any PDF printing or any 3rd party interface into the AirPrint software. This means you must own an AirPrint printer to do any wireless printing and completely disables any PDF saving. I need both features and Apple's decision make Print n Share useless as well as my iPad for business functions.

Have you read the discussion forums?

There are a lot of loyal displeased Apple users out there.

I would like my purchase of Print n Share refunded immediately.

Thank you.

Specific request: This app didn't function as expected

Item title: Print N Share for advanced printing

Details: What are the details, including any error messages, related to your question?

Since Ios 5 update, my print n share app along with the additional 1.99 I paid to use the print to pdf function doesn't work. I can not print to any wifi printer or print to pdf like the app states on the App Store. I purchased this app both for my ipad and iphone. The app was of significant cost and I expect a refund. It clearly doesn't work as stated. Please refund me the total for both apps as well as the additional print to pdf charge.

I have been the biggest apple supporter and have pushed friends and family to Apple. I've owned 3 macbooks, 3 ipads, and 2 iphones. I couldn't be more disappointed with Apples decision to get rid of any printing software and PDF. It is a business standard. I now cannot use my iphone or ipad for business the way I have in the past. If I knew this was going to happen I would have went to the android platform, which I will be doing in the future.

Please address immediately.

John

Really Apple...? Look what your competition can do a year ago. Are we moving backwards? Does anyone else out there share my pain?

How to Print From an Android Phone

Print over the air with Mobile Dynamix PrinterShare.

By Mark Shea, PCWorld Dec 3, 2010 2:00 pm

The Android OS doesn't yet provide native support for printing. Thankfully, third-party developers have filled the void for Android smartphones. The most popular option is PrinterShare by Mobile Dynamix.

PrinterShare, also called PrinterAnywhere, has two printing modes: Nearby and Remote. Nearby mode prints to select Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-connected printers straight from the phone. You can install the mobile app directly to your phone, choose your printer, and print. You can print a test page via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi at no cost to see if it works. In fact, you can print 20 pages for free; beyond that, you'll need to pay $5 for the full PrinterShare app.

Hi

Totally agree with your annoyance and frankly I am seriously p....d off with Apple as this effectively reduces iPad to a display only device. I have paid out £600 and now have functionality removed.

I have raised this issue in iPF forum in the hope that the moderators will proceed with a survey to determine how many users have been affect by the loss of printing capability - please add your support / comments.

I have an HP Photosmart 309g @ £150, one year old, which printed successfully via Print n Share now there is no way of printing an email, web page or from Pages - absolute disaster. I wonder how many prospective iPad buyers are aware of this limitation or the additional need to buy a NEW printer.

Come on Apple get your act together.

Hi kworley

Thanks for the feedback - However the app/program suggested is only resident on a Mac and is not available or used directly on the iPad to allow printing to non-AirPrint printers.

I am not tied specifically to Print n Share, all I (we) want is for Apple to fix this iOS 5 error for probably thousands of users!

It would be good for Apple Support to respond to this thread and explain why & when!

Regards and thanks

Bryn

The decision by Apple to remove non-AirPrint support doesn't seem like a very 'Green' decision to me. You gotta love how these companies market the 'Clean Green' but in reality it's all about the '$$ Green'. I wonder how many perfectly good printers will go to the landfill or through the dirty China recovery process due to this decision??

Bryn-

Please don't hold your breath waiting for Apple to respond to ... or ever admit their error. Apple never makes an error. It is you (all Users) who have just not ascended to their higher level of intelligence to see the wisdom or their ways. Once you do assend to their level of understanding you will submit (as all good Apple users have for decades) to their way of doing things.

Apple arrogance lives on, even after Jobs death. Oh how I now wish I would have purchased one of the Android Tablets, instead of buying an Apple product. It always seems so nice... Until you run up against their superior knowledge of how they know you should use their products better that you do. We all are guilty ... We know they believe in their heart of hearts, that a closed (controlled) architecture is superior to an open architecture... And yet we still fall for their charade of hope and change... (hmmm, where have we heard that before) and get sucked in.

So far over 3 thousand have viewed this forum and yet no response from Apple. They just came clean over a battery drain glitch in the new phone. Perhaps, they will own up to this too.

The work arounds suggested are interesting, but very time consuming and certainly not the elegant interfacing we were lead to believe.

If anyone comes across a way to go back to 4.3, please post.

Let's hope that our volume means something

Oh Apple, Apple, Apple.

How can any you justify a decision like this. It is only going to annoy you loyal customers. I have just read through this entire thread and if any of you are an apple marketing employees are reading this you should be worrying about the negative feedback that this decision has made. Surely you have to give us a solution to this as a matter of urgency.
