After updating to iOS 5 I wanted to try the wi-fi sync option but its nor working. When I connect my iPhone to charge nothing happens, I try to manualy get it started but I can't because it says my computer is offlline. This is weird since I'm using my mac to write this....
Any ideas?

It doesn't automcatically do it when you plug it in, thats the iCloud backup feature.
You will need to have iTunes open on your Mac for it to work. Your iPhone should appear on the left hand side and it should automatically sync, if not go to Settings > General > iTunes WiFi Sync on your iPhone.
Have you enabled Wi-Fi syncing in iTunes on the summary page when your iPhone is connected?
Speaking of iCloud, it doesn't do that either.
In the iPhone itself I go to where you say and it won't allow me to do it. It says the sync will automaticaly restart when my computer is available. My comuter is on, as is iTunes. I don't know how to make it more available...
when I conect the iPhone to my computer that option doesn't appear. All the summary page shows me is the options to store my back up, either in iCloud or the computer 😟
When your iPhone is connected to iTunes with a cable, select it from the sidebar. In the iPhone summary tab on the right scroll down to options and make sure you have a tick in the "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi".
That option does not appear 😟😟
In the summay tab four more tabs appear: 1) iPhone, with my iPhone info 2) Version, where I have the option to update or restore the iPhone 3) Security Copy, where I can choose wether to store the security copy on the computer or on iCloud 4) Options, which are as follows: *Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected *Sync only selected songs and videos *Standard definition for videos *Convert to AAC from 128 kbps songs with greater bit velocity *Manage music and videos mannualy

bbfc is correct, you have to have itunes open when you do the itunes sync. Also make sure that the "Sync with this iphone over wi-fi" is checked on the summary page (when you connect your iphone to itunes with the cord, it's in the summary page).
what version of OS X does it work on ? 10.5 6 or 7 ? thanks. I have 10.5 and my iphone does not show up and on the itunes wifi sync on the phone - it is greyed out ?.

Ok, I've restored my iPhone just to give it a try and there's no change in the situation.
The iTunes summary still does NOT show me the option to tick the sync via wi-fi with my iPhone, even though on the iPhone itslelf I've set it that way.
I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes version 10.5.
iCloud backup also does NOT work. Even if my computer is on and iTunes is running, nothing happens unless I connect the iPhone to the computer with the cable.
Am I missing something?? Am I doing something wrong?? I really don't get it! Please help me! The wireless sync is probably the best feature of the new iOS and I can't use it! 😢
Like I said before Kwopau, the option doesn't appear on the summary tab when I connect my iPhone to the computer using the cord.
I could share a print screen to let you guys see for yourselfs, if anyone can tell me how to take a print screen
have you made sure that you have the wifi sync turned on in settings.. also make sure that you have done a back up in the iCloud setting field this worked for me
