"Time Machine could not complete the backup" after 10.7.2 update

I have Time Machine configured to automatically backup on a Time Capsule. After the update it is giving this error message along with "The backup disk image could not be accessed (error -1). Also a finder window opens up with the backup disk highlighted and the folders in it. At one point earlier today it did do a backup of 3gb, but just now it failed again. In Time Machine preferences the correct disk (Time Capsule) is selected. So....???

Upon further discovery, once I got to the highlight your Time Capsule step in Airport Utility I noticed that the name of the disk had been changed to "Data" rather than the name I had given it upon setup way back when. This is a changeable field. So I changed the name back to the setup name then clicked on Disconnect all users then followed the rest of the steps.

Backup then occured fine. This time it did not open a new finder window. I am guessing the mis-named disk was the issue and Time Machine was looking for something that wasnt there. Will keep checking on subsequent backups.

BTW - the MacBook did not have this issue - weird.

Jean,

I am still experiencing intermittent problems with not backing up as well. the first automatic backup after a power on or reboot fails, then at some point later a backup squeeks through. Not at all sure what is going on. this is on the iMac only, the MacBook is working (for now)

I dont think its a time Machine crash, there appears to be some problem finding where to go to find the most recent backup and to work with that.....

Any more findings would be appreciated.

Hi Douglas !

On my side everything looks like having been working fine for a few hours ...

I changed setting in airport utility time capsule diks sharing to allow access

using time capsule password and not a specific one.

Just an Idea to make the easiest way possible for Time Machine to access

to the disk.

I didn't try to reboot yet ... Ill and let you know.

Besides that I tried to get info from Express Lane ... And was a bit upset to find out

that having no Apple Care active I was invited to suscribe a $50 monthly assistance contract

to get help with an issue directly related to Mac Os Lion last release ...

But I may sound a bit "Naive" ...

Jean.

Note:

I'm still having the problem resurface every time I restart my Mac Mini. Time Machine is still coming on not finding the disc, it opens a finder folder just like before. So each time I restart my Mac Mini, I have to redo all the steps above.

I'm assuming that there is a bug in 10.7.2 that is causing this. I guess we'll have to wait for the 10.7.3 or 10.7.2.1 update to fix the time machine bug...
