Contact Names & SMS missing after iOS5 upgrade?

Hey... I just upgraded to iOS 5 from iOS 4.3.5 & just noticed a minor glitch. I live in the Maldives and all my contacts are saved as +960772xxxx (with the country code). Here in the Maldives, you can dial the local numbers without the country code (i.e when someone calls, the number will appear as 772xxxx - without the country code)

When I was on iOS 4.3.5, when someone who's number was saved with the country code (i.e +960772xxxx) the contact name would still appear on the phone. After upgrading to iOS 5, the names don't appear on the caller ID!

I have over 300 contacts and I don't want to change the numbers to without the country codes as I travel abroad frequently and have to make calls back home...

AND

All the sms's dating back to the past 2 years have disappeared! I only have sms' starting from the begining of this year 😟

Any suggestions / fixes for the above 2 problems? havn't noticed any more glitches after that..

I have exactly the same issue for me, my wife, and ALL my friends who having iPhones. I tries restoring ios 5 many time, I've gone through all the options and settings but with no use. As I'm travelling abroard frequently as well, It is a must for me to have all my contacts with their related international codes, if I amend all my contacts to delete their international codes, I'll face problems when I travel abroad upon receing calls from those contacts.

I have also many other issues that either me or my friends have faced after the upgrade to ios 5, but this one is the most importnat one to me currently.

Any help in that regard? or shall we wait for the next update of ios 5?

It seems it is a global issue, not for specific country or specific networks, in my case, some contacts within one network are not shown and others from the same mobile network are shown. It seems it is a software fault on the global level, which is very disppointing for Apple Inc. to have such software fault along with many other issues and faults that I'm facing (either personally or with my my friends).

Not expected at all from you APPLE.

Thanks a lot for the help. I already did that yesterday. I have also other problems regarding the personal hotspot and my apps in the cloud at the App store which I have reported to Apple as well on the above link.

But I'd like to tell you that the problem in Kuwait is not for Wataniya numbers only, it is for the numbers of all the three carriers (Zain, Wataniya & Viva), and as I followed up on the internet, it seems to be a global issue in many countries.

Hope that Apple will listen and release the required update very soon.

I am also having a problem since upgrading to iOS 5. I am in Oman right now (on assignment) and all my contacts are prefixed with +968 (Oman country code). When I receive a local call, iPhone does not match any of my contacts and just displays the number as it does not contain the country code. Removing the country code in my contact list though creates problem on my Messages as SMS is received with country codes and will not match my contacts if they are saved without the country code.

I hate that I have to add the same number twice. One without country code and one with country code. Has anyone able to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm from Kuwait and have the same problem. Your solution seems helpful, but can't do it as iPhone lists Kuwait in Arabic format only, while all my contacts and settings are in English. Therefore, can't select Kuwait format.

Apple needs to work on these issues. Other than fixing the missing contact names after the upgrade, please add English language option to other non-English countries. A US citizen for example living in Kuwait can't select Kuwait Arabic format for sure, but would want to specify Kuwait as the country of residence and so on.

did it for u iMaF? i tried it but no lock, its a factory unlocked i4 i think this problem is related both software and carrier because when i had my i3 it didnt display caller ID in Sri Lanka with numbers stored with country code (+94) but worked fine in Male' (+960) so i think it has a little to do with both and funny part is that caller ID is displayed for SMS's hope apple finds a fix soooooooooooon
