10.7.2 Photoshop Could not save because write access was not granted. (To a server)

After MacOS 10.7.2 update Photoshop CS5 files are not saving when opened directly from an Apple AFP Server (10.5.8). Error dialog: Could not save "file name" because write access was not granted. If canceled, the file disappears from the server. Worked fine in 10.7.1. Anyone else have this problem? Help.

I have checked the permissions for the Photoshop files via 10.5 Server Admin. The permissions for the files and folders in question are set to allow everyone and their brother Read & Write access in both the ACL and POSIX lists. I also selected to Propagate Permissions for the folder/subfolders and files. Still no luck saving a layered Photoshop CS5 file that was directly opened up from the RAID Server. I can open, edit and save a layered Photoshop file placed in an InDesign layout using the Edit Original command in the InDesign Links palette. Why should that matter? Does InDesign use a different code for opening a Photoshop file? Oh boy.

Where's what I found:

Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.

Did you create a new folder?

Try a Save As.

Do you have Suitcase Fusion 3? If yes update it and also everything in the server.

Yes, I created an new folder on the server, still receiving the Photoshop error when saving. Also created a new folder on my desktop and moved it to the server, still receiving the Photoshop error when saving. Everything was fine in MacOS 10.7.1, Apple must of changed something in the 10.7.2 update. (Save As) works fine to the server. We use Linotype FontExplorer X Pro 3.1 (Build 6092)

I have been working on this for the last few days. I'm getting the Could not save "file.psd" because write access was not granted. error when I open a file from my Leopard server.

I have a variety of machines in the office that I have been using to test with. It seems that the server understands who the files 'owner' is, not only by visually getting info, but with the command line, manually checking permissions. The workstations connecting to the server are in various states of confusion based on their OS. Some show the owner correctly (Leopard OS), while others (Snow Leopard and Lion) show (_unknown) as the owner. The lack of understanding of sho the file owner is seems to be the culprit, but I can't fogire out how to address it, as it's not a permission issue in my thought, rather an issue with the workstations and their OS.

I will say that intil about 2 weeks ago, we didn't have this problem. So I wonder if there has been an Apple pdate that changes something that could be causing this.

How this manifests itself, and is a real nightmare waiting to happen is when working on files from the server. I open Photoshop to edit and save a file on a Leopard machine, the files saves fine. When I do the exact same thing on Snow Leopard or Lion machine, I get Could not save "file.psd" because write access was not granted. The files disappears and I have to save again to save it. When I go back to the Leopard machine to open the file, it opens and saves just fine.

As a test, I cleared my keychains on the Lion and Snow Leopard machines, but that didn't help.

Has anyone been able to figure out anything on this so far?

Thanks for your help so far Stela. I created a new user on an iMac running MacOS 10.7.2. but am still getting the "Could not save" error when saving a layered Photoshop file opened directlly from a Leopard server. My other Macs running MacOS 10.7.1, 10.6.8, and 10.5.8 work fine. Crazy! I hope Apple knows about this.

I have a solution to this issue. I worked with a guy at Apple Support to solve the problem, which is not with Lucida or Adobe Photoshop. It's with how Lucida Grande's preview is generated. Somehow in my updating process, the resources Lucida uses were damaged. So, here is the fix. It sounds odd, but it works.

First thing... quit all open applications.

1. Open Font Book and navigate to Stone Sans. (You may have to or three versions)

2. Right-Click and "Show in Finder" - This will take you to your System/Library/Fonts folder.

3. Copy all Stone Sans font files to your desktop as a backup.

4. In Font Book, right-click on all Stone Sans fonts and 'Remove Fonts'.

5. Open Photoshop and check to see if Lucida Grande is available for use. This re-builds some font cache or font resource that is used by Photoshop. (No one could tell me this for sure, so I'm guessing here.)

6. Close Photoshop and copy Stone Sans back into the System/Library/Fonts folder and relaunch Photoshop.

You should be back in business.

The guy I spoke with at Apple said that he believes Stone Sans is a resource for Lucida Grande, and if the connection to that resource was corrupt, it could cause this problem, but that he has never heard of it before.

This worked for me.
