After upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 I'm having all kinds of trouble connecting to my WIFI network. Anyone else?

A solution that seemed to work today was as follows:

1) delete your existing wireless network settings, mark sure to choose forget connection.

2) re-establish your wireless connection.

3) go into the settings for the connection. Point the DNS servers to an opendns server such as 208.67.222.222. Save the settings.

I performed these steps this morning, not only did I not experience any signal loss, I never was disconnected once. Ft worked flawlessly all day long. I can't take credit for this solution, someone else posted it on another site and on some of these threads. Multiple people are reporting this solved heir problems. I'll keep you updated. Good luck and pass the word if it works for you.

I am having the exact same issue, but my iPhone 4 reboots on its own for no apparent reason, I called apple and the CSR told me that the problem is with my device and I said that it was working fine on OS4 it just started having these issues after the iOS5 update - she offered me a "Refurbished" which I declined as my device is only 4 mons old. I did a reset on the network back to factory default.. but still its not the same, having serious connection issues and because of that I am dropping calls..... iOS *****..... Please fix this

Guys,

After a couple of tries with complete resets I think I've narrowed my problem.

The last complete reset (which wipes your telephone completely) only connected to the network here on my work.

I left my telephone just doing nothing. So the energy saving mode did his thing. After half a day activating my telephone again. Hereby I mean get it out of standby, the WiFi connection popped right up and got connected. This is still with my telephone with only the basic installation (configuring your telephone for the first time use). During this configuration I enabled everything (i.e. icloud, location settings etc).

Here comes the moment where I think I discovered the bug. I tapped the weather icon to check the weather here in Amsterdam. A popup appeared with the question to use gps settings for getting the local weather. I allowed it and after that my WiFi connection broke. Which also results the hang of your settings part when you want to check your WiFi.

So what I now did was completely deactivate the location settings in the system settings. I've restarted my telephone and everything works like a charm. This runs now for 1,5 day.

My system is:

iPhone 4 with ios 5

network is a cisco/linksys router with dd-wrt

So if you have troubles with the WiFi, deactivate the Location setting completely

After updating to ios5 with iphone 4 i experience a loss of signal strength. I've tried everything on the Apple troubleshooting page concerning wifi. I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my iphone so i'm wondering: when you touch the antenna on the top of the iphone, does your phone automatically lose connection as well? It seems to have trouble getting a strong signal & reconnecting coming out of 3g mode, but i had no troubles before the update. Should i go back to the shop?

I'm experiencing the same trouble on 3GS with ios 5.

One thing that nobody has mentioned before is the fact that this also drains the data package, because I mostly don't even recognize when my wifi cuts out simply Because I'm use to the wifi working.

I will try the posted solution with the opendns tomorrow.

What's also weird for me is that once I lose connection, I can't rejoin the network, even though I can see it in the overview. Not sure why, but the wifi works fine on my pc. And turning wifi off and on again doesn't solve anything.

Hope apple fixes this in the next update or at least would show Some reaction.

What kind of nonsense solution is this, if I turned off the location service, more than half of my apps won't work as all those apps require location service to be turned on..... This is unacceptable..... I am very upset at Apple, years of bashing Windows, RIM and all the other devices is nothing but lies..... At least those guys accept and acknowledge the problem but these guys.....

I had the same problem with an ipod touch 4g, tried all listed solutions... solved only by going into my router settings (bthomehub), -> Advanced Settings -> Devices and deleting my ipod from there, then refreshing. straightaway the wifi symbol appeared and my router was ticked (instead of endless circling). So, if you can access your router settings, this might be worth a try.

just updated to 5.01 and the problem has definitely not been resolved. Have re-booted the phone but still have no wifi (and battery is still draining). Have had Apple products since the very start and have always loved them and defended them (back in the early 90s when others were less than positive). Now I'm getting frustrated. The OS 5 bug was supposed to be fixed with this update - NOT!

I don't know if it is related. I had wifi problems using IOS and Lion with airport express and extreme configured with roaming. I would have very poor network connectivity to the airport even though the wifi signal was strong. It was related to the interaction between the airport, uverse router and gigabit switch. Removing the 2wire 3801 from the network resolved the problem. I configured the extreme with NAT and DMZ plus on the 2wire.

I have the following configuration in my network:

  • Uverse2wire 3801 router
  • Airport extreme firmware 7.6
  • Two airport express 802.11n hardwired to extreme. Set up in bridge mode. All accesspoints have same SSID "create a network" to enable roaming. firmware 7.6
  • Netgear GS608 - 8 port gigabit switch
  • Trendnet TEG-S80g - 8 port gigabit switch
