If it is of any use, I am having the exact same issue described in this thread and have initiated a support call to the Italian Apple support team.  Was elevated to 2nd level and as no solution was found was told that it is being referred to an engineer and they will get back to me in the next few days.  One thing NOT to do is reset your iPhone.  My wife's was working fine and mine had an issue.  I was told to reset them both and hey presto instead of fixing them both we now have issues on both!!!!!

COME ON APPLE, SORT IT OUT!!!!!

Solution in this topic worked for me!

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17319571#17319571

Contacting apple support also solved my problem. I Also couldn't remove (or see) that my appleID was registered with an old MobileMe account that was no longer active (Was a 30 day free trial that I didn't continue). I think at one point in december they rolled all MobileMe accounts over to iCloud somewhere in December (as it stopped working for me in December) and my email address conflicted on both accounts...

Support escalated the case and the address was manually removed by an employee and it started working like before.

Thanks Lezz - I just referenced this thread while using Express Lane chat and my case was also escalated - was told that they needed more time than they can spend on chat doing that and that someone will get back to me within 48 hours. Hoping this will solve me problem as well.

One other observation: while chatting with someone at the Genius Bar regarding this problem, he mentioned that he wasn't able to check my AppleID's for alternate email addresses overlapping with my active email because the iTunes support team is a separate group (when I asked if AppleID's were handled by that team, he said they were).

Coincidentally while I was waiting for him to check some things, I noticed that my wife's iPhone was prompting me for my own AppleID password (not her password) to update an app.

At some point I apparently installed several apps onto her iPhone using my AppleID instead of hers.   Not sure if this has anything to do with this issue, but I'm going through the process of checking every one of her apps in iTunes (by doing a get info on each of them) and deleting any apps from both iTunes and her iPhone that were downloaded with my AppleID.

I haven't been thru all of the threads but our issue is that my wife and I have 3GS and I have a menu item for "Invitees" on my iphone when I add a new calendar date. She doesn't. Is this a software update thing or was this "Invitees" menu item on other firmware updates up to the present one?

I had the same problem - my wife's invites stopped coming to my calendar and she stopped receiving mine.  Went in to check iCloud account and she had changed her Apple ID password since it was first set up.  Updated password for iCloud account and problem solved!  Very simple solution to an annoying problem.

    Maybe try this:

    (1) Delete your gmail account at Mail.

    (2) Open System Preferences and choose Mail, Contacts & Calendars

    (3) Delete the gmail account there is you still can see it

    (4) Add an account by clicking on "+" the add your Gmail account BUT only select Calendar.

After that you may see your invitations on the iCal.

Basically you are making iCal to login into your Google Calendar Account (on line) and retrieve the invitations. Don't know if it is Push or Retrieve but it worked for me.

I am not sure it is really necessary to delete your gmail at Mail (step 1) and Delete the gmail at "Mail, Contact & Calendars" (step 3). But I could not get step (4) work when (1) and (3) were not done.

    Good luck.

Changing the password on the iCloud account that isn't receiving invites is what resolved this for me

I should read this thread more often - I forgot all about noticing this until restoring my iCloud account to my new iPhone after doing a backup on my old iPhone.

Before I finished restoring the apps, invites worked fine.   They continued working fine while my phone was stuck in "restoring from backup mode" and kept prompting me for my wife's AppleID.  As long as I didn't enter it, invites continued to work.

Once I entered her AppleID, invites stopped working - apparently at that point my iPhone installed one or more apps associated with my wife's AppleID.

Once I realized this, I tried de-authorizing my wife's AppleID from iTunes on my Mac (I previously hadn't realized i had ever authorized it), and then snynced my iPhone again. (I believe that the reason I had my wife's apps on my iPhone is because i plugged her phone into my Mac to charge it once, which triggered iTunes to start syncing - although not totally clear on how iTunes merges or not apps when you sync with multiple devices).

    Invitations are now working again.

Having the same problem. The best "WORKAROUND" that i found to be able to send out and receive invites properly is to TURN OFF Calendar in iCloud and let your "Mac" handle the routing of invites locally. Also this may be tied to the contact card of the user. Step by step process is:

    1. Delete/Remove any Calendar account in iCal; including icloud, gmail. I mean ALL.

    2. Close iCal/Calendar.

    3. Alternatively, go to Systems Preferrence>>iCloud and UNCHECK the Calendars and Reminders.

    4. Next, open Contacts/Addressbook and look for your own personal card with your emails, numbers, address etc. Click it then go to "Card" on the Menu on top, and then click "Make this My Card". Then close contacts.

    5. Now open back iCal/Calendar. On the right, if you clicked Calendars, you will see 2 default calendar under "On My Mac". If you have this only. You did it right. You may add additional calendars/calendar headings from here on.

    6. Test to see if you can send invites. Create an Event then add invitees. You may try your other email accounts. This should send in the background using your Mail.app. YOu may note that it will use the Email account that is first listed under your "Inbox". For me right now, iCloud is listed first among my inboxes then Gmail then Yahoomail. IN case you will change the order, Calendar will use the first listed email account.

Hope this provides a workaround for some who might want their invites capability in Calendar restored. This however hampers syncing the Calendar and Reminders. What you can do to sync the details is to also send to your iClloud email everytime you send invites.

Could it be that you disabled the email option under icloud settings because you don't use the me.com adress? If so try enabling it and tell me if it worked...

    Fixed the problem...

So after apple support failed to make it work I found the solution by reversing what they told me to do.

Go to manage your apple id

Change your Id from @google.com to @googlemail.com

Save and verify the new email

Log back into manage your apple id

Go back and change the email from @googlemail to @gmail

    Verify the email

    Restart your phone or devices.

    Voila! Fixed.

Thanks stuartfromglasogw, that helped my problem.

iCal does not let you send invites to yourself (although it doesn't tell you that -- it just refuses to add your name as an invitee).

Using Lion I found that suddently I could not add my work email address as an invitee to my home calendar. I couldn't figure out what was going on until I checked my appleid, and lo, my work address was listed as an alternate address. I had forgotten I had done this to authorize use of Messages on my work iPhone.

Once I removed my work address from my iCloud profile, everything started working again.
