Q: iOS 5 AVRCP is it version 1.3?

Does the final iOS 5 for iPhone and iPad have Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 support?  Supposedly the betas have/had it.  I have a Kenwood DDX418 car stereo that according to the owner's manual supports AVRCP 1.3 that enables showing tag info like artist, song, album info.  I have my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 updated to iOS 5 but the song info doesn't seem to be tranmitting so I'm wondering if the AVRCP is still at 1.0.  Thanks.

I just got a MacBook Pro Saturday and I took it out to my 2012 Mazda 3 hooked up to bluetooth and confirmed that it shows the metadata but when I hooked my iPhone 5 back up no metadata showing.

There's a lot more information on this Mazda forum:

Here's a response from Apple that was posted to the forum

10-Jul-2012 02:19 PM Apple Developer Bug Reporting Team :

Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:

We discussed this issue with the manufacturer. They acknowledged there is a critical bug on their platform, as they require the phone to support no more than AVRCP 1.3. Because iOS supports AVRCP 1.4 since 5.0, they do not enable & use any AVRCP 1.3 feature. The bug has been fixed on their newer platforms.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Also, this response from Mazda:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...we have found that it seems that only phones with exactly AVRCP 1.3 are able to display the metadata. As you also stated, iPhones with iOS 5 and above use AVRCP 1.4, so they will likey not display the metadata. At this time, we have not been informed of any upcoming updates for the HandsFree system in your vehicle that would change the way the metadata functions. We apologize for any inconvenience.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, as noted on one of the more recent posts, the iPhone would need to send exactly AVRCP 1.3.  I don't know if it is possible, perhaps through a Jailbreak app, to force AVRCP 1.3.

I'd say that overall, everybody with a stereo that only supports AVRCP (i.e. Mazdas) is probalby out of luck.

I already looked for an app as well but didn't find any.

Lots of misinformation here on both sides - 2010 Mazda CX-9 displays metadata with an iPhone runing 6.0, with an AVRCP of 1.4  2012 does not show metadata using same phone.  Likewise, same car also shows metadata when running older version of IOS using AVRCP 1.3.

Conversely, a 2012 CX-9 doe snot show metadata with either IOS or AVRCP version.

I suspect it's the way the head unit reads the AVRCP data.
