ringtones missing after iOS 5 update

If you have the same issue that I had were I could not see my ringtones after the upgrade. Its like the ringtones are on the iphone, but the iphone does not know they are there.

To fix it I unchecked syncing ringtones in Itunes and synced my phone. I then check the option to sync ringtons in Itunes and synced my phone again. After I did that I could see my ringtones.

This worked for me! I'm happy to say I now have ALL my ringtones (purchased and created) back on my iPhone. ONLY interesting problem is I had "re-bought" one ringtone and now it's on my phone twice. I can live with that!!

After upgrading to iOS 5, the Ringtones option (where you check and un-check) is now missing on my iTunes v10.5.

I've tried turning on and off the Ringtones category in iTunes preferences but this did not make the Ringtones category disappear.

When I drag ringtones to the iPhone 4 (regular) directly, they appear in gray under the iPhone icon on the left column in iTunes.

When I check the Sound preferences on the iPhone, none of the custom ringtones appear. I've tried creating new ringtones by converting them to .m4a and then .m4r and dragging them to the iPhone but am still unable to find the custom ringtones on the iPhone.

I tried the uncheck sync tones, apply, then check tones again and apply and it didn't work. I still can't find them on my phone though itunes can see them :/

The ringtones that are missing for me are custom ringtones. I'm getting the exclamation point next to it in iTunes and the dialog box asking me if I'd like to locate it. But of course, I'd like to locate it!! I just can't! I have tried to uncheck and re-check the syncing of ringtones, no luck. I'm open to the next suggestion. Thanks. GMSinNJ

Your problem is that the underlying file is missing. Click 'Get Info' on the track, and when it says it couldn't find it, click 'No. Once the info dialog opens, bring up the 'Summary' tab, and the expected location is shown at the bottom of the panel.

Sorry, but I'm not good at this. Do you unsync in iTunes or in settings?
