When I activated iCloud on my Mac for calendars it created 2-4 duplicates of the majority of my iCal events. It also duplicated my subscriptions.
Besides deleting manually, which would take way too long, how can this be resolved?

Yes, I have the same problem. I have duplicates of nearly all events on my iMac but not on my iPhone.
I had the same problem. I updated to IOS5 on my iPhone 3G last night, then decided this morning to update to Lion on my MacBook (kept meaning to but just never did). Calender events were all okay on the phone, but I had duplicates on iCal on the macBook. This is how I resolved it: clicked on iCal, Preferences and then Accounts. I saw an account for both icloud and mobile me. I deleted the mobile me account and it deleted all of my duplicates. It also deleted the Us Holidays calendar I subscribed to on my iPhone, but I subscribed to that again, this time under iCloud and all is good. Hope this works for you!
Hmmm...the only account that appears in my iCal is iCloud.
I only have iCloud on my Mac. My iPod touch is too old and cannot be updated to iOS 5.
I also only see iCloud in my iCal prefs
Sorry. I thought since it worked for me I though it might help you. I also unchecked enable this account under the account tabs and then rechecked it. Doubt that'll do anything for you, but just case. Good luck.
Hi I think I solved it! Open iCal on your mac. Click the calendars button top left hand corner. I deleted the 'On My Mac' calendars by control click, leaving only the iCloud calendars. Now my calendar is back to normal.
This fix worked perfectly. You need to remove the mobileme account from ical. iCal>preferences>Accounts Tab and then delete the mobileme account. Do not delete the iCloud account.
so go to your iCal on your iPhone > open Calendars > just turn on the iCloud Calendars that should take care of the problem.
