iCloud .me email not pushing to iOS 5 devices

First off, if this is a repeat post please direct me to the existing conversation. As I could not find one I wanted to know if anyone is having an issue with iCloud email being pushed to iOS 5 devices? It seems like the push feature only works when the email app is running in the background and even then it runs very slow. Does anyone know if this is a glitch within iOS5, a server issue, settings issue, etc?

I have already tried deleting the account and re-adding it and various other "fixes" but to no avail. I remember the horrendous rollout of MobileMe and I have a feeling that this is simply more of the same.

This is happening to me too. With my iPad with iOS 4, as soon as I received an email, even if the email app was not open I would get a badge on the app icon showing that I had a new email. With iCloud and iOS 5, push does not seem to be working properly. For example, at night I will receive several emails to my iCloud account. When I look at my iPad in the morning, the Mail icon will not show any new messages. I will actually have to open the mail app, at which point mail will check for mail and then finally show my messages in the inbox (and on the icon badge). This is even though I have push turned on. Definitely seems like bugginess in either iOS 5 or the iCloud servers...

Hi both of you, I think I received at night notifications without the Mail app running. Did you activate these things?

  • "Settings" --> "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" --> "Fetch New Data" (here you have to turn on "Push" or select a Fetch schedule) --> "Advanced" --> "iCloud" --> select Push or Fetch
  • "Settings" --> "Notifications" --> "Mail" turn on Notification Center and configure what you like

I am having the same issues seems for a day or two. I just recently upgraded to 4S/iOS5. It appeared to be working initially, but now I'm not getting me.com emails pushed. I dont think yo uneed to have the email app running in the background, Ive been getting emails pushed for a while now (same email address). Anyone know if it's a temporary issue with iCloud?

Yes I have the same problem on both iPhone and IPad since moving from MobileMe to the iCloud. I can only pick up email when opening the mail app and doing a send and receive. It worked ok initially but hasn't worked for a few days now. Why can't they tell us there is an issue on the iCloud status page rather than saying that all systems are working fine. The least they can do is be honest with their customers, some of us understand things do go wrong occasionally and may take a while to fix. Could I respectfully suggest they get there heads out of the "cloud" and communicate with us better.

Im still having push issues. What ***** is, I was paying for MobileMe, and Im not a new customer that this isnt working for. I upgraded to iClound and now I get the problem. I can understand if I just opened a free iCloud account 3 days ago, but my MobileMe has been working near flawlessly for over 2 years. This *****.

You did "just opened a free iCloud account 3 days ago"

iCloud is not Mobile Me

I migrated my currect MobileMe account @.me email address to the cloud. I dont see it as opening a new account. It should have simply been a migration. I now take up space on the cloud, I understand that. It just ***** that even paying customers cant get decent service with this. I know it will pass, but after over 2 years of getting pushed mail, I find myself forgetting to check my own mail for hours. Call it lazy, but when you are just used to something thats automatic, its frustrating to say the least.

I quit the mail app and closed it from running in the background. Then I switched it to fetch instead of push. Opened mail app and then closed it and quit it from background. Changed it back to push and it appears to be working again. I know other people have said Apple is working on it so maybe it's just coincidence but that's what worked for me.
