Most of my album artwork is missing after updating to iOS 5

I just updated my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 5 and now all my album artwork is missing. What should I do?

Is there a way to get back the album art in my iPod?

Can Apple fix this problem?

will deleting all of the music then syncing again work for me if the music is no longer stored on my computer or will it delete all of that music? what i mean is when i first got my ipod last christmas i had never used itunes and thought once i added songs to the itunes library then itunes stored a copy of it. after i added all that music to my ipod i deleted the music from my computer so now many files in itunes have a little ! saying that the song cannot be located. i'd like to get my album art back but don't want to lose my music. i've tried manually adding in artwork and although it shows in itunes it won't show on my ipod so deleting the music and syncing seems to be my last resort.

I wouldn't advise that you delete your music and resync in your case. If you delete your music on your device and then try to resync with your pc then they'll be an empty library on your pc to sync it with. I would have a look at your sync settings though as I would have thought you're pc iTunes library should be copying over your music from your device. If you can resolve that then you can proceed with the steps outlined to retrieve your missing artwork.

I have the same problem with my ipad2. I use my ipad2 mainly for music videos and movies, and the artwork helps me easily identify them on the device. But, ever since the update, it is now stuffed - I have lost 80% of my artwork (which isnt cool when you have nearly 300 movies/music videos).

The crazy thing is in iTunes, the artwork is definitely there, but it isnt on my device. What gives!?!?!

Something else stupid (that I plan on moaning to apple when I call them tomorrow), is some of my music videos wont even play. However, if I change the media form to Movies - they play perfectly. If I change it back to music video, it wont play.

Get it sorted apple!!!!

Everything used to work perfectly before I updated, and I just wish I could 'un-install' the update...

Same problem, I have every album artwork and since IOS 5 it hasn't been working, it is in Itunes but most aren't in my Ipod. Also sometimes it will show that i have the album artwork but when i lock it it doesn't show up. I have Un-synced my music then synced it. I have deleted all the music then re added it then synced it. I have reset it to factory settings then synced it all over again. Nothing is working for me, i just hope Apple resolves this problem within a week. 😟

I'm having this same issue, which is one of many with this new update. I just spent the last 5 hours reloading about 100 covers, because they mysteriously will not show up on my iPhone after the update. Now even after reloading them all and synching my iPhone is still missing the same album artwork that I just added back in. I just don't get it. They need to get the bugs figured out with this update. I've been meticulous in keeping nearly 1000 albums with covers. Why would they show up on my desktop but not the phone?

In addition to this some how about 150 albums all mysteriously duplicated when I upgraded. I spent hours fixing that mess the other day.

Something else I just noticed earlier today which is also extremely annoying. I'm not sure if it is a bug or an update, but what I noticed is that songs on compilations no longer appear under the artist. This is a major issue for me. I am nearing 10,000 songs, 1000 albums, and in particular, about 125 compilations. I went to a certain artist page today to listen to a song that I hadn't heard in awhile. A month ago the song would have been listed under all the songs in that artist page, now it is not. I could not remember the name of the compilation and because of the quantity of music was not able to find it...couldn't remember song name either. But my point is it should have been listed under the artist page where it used to be...I shouldnt have to open up ever compilation under the albums section and look for it. This THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!

On a side note, one of the other major issues I had with the update is that my calendar was completely mangled. It created an copy of every entry (roughly 250). It also somehow changed the time of EVERY appointment. I use this phone for business as well and this has been a nightmare to deal with. I spent some time on the phone with apple and they were not able to fix it. The person I spoke to even told me that this update was rushed out, and there was not really any training on it for the phone techs.

I really hope apple finds some solutions to the problems above. I was a late comer to apple, and in the last 2 years they have won me over for the simplicity, ease of use, and lack of problems...I literally had no problems with my iPod touch and iPhone 4 over the past year, however this update is changing my opinion quickly, and if it continues, I will again look elsewhere for a devise that doesn't cause me problems to use. I know sometimes there are bugs but these te of bugs should never occur with proper testing. More importantly these bugs are directly negatively effecting the two main reasons I use iPhone...for business (calendar) and pleasure (iPod).

Whoa........guess I should google all future updates before downloading. I'm having the same problems with the artwork disappearing. Also had the album and song title lettering become too light to read but that seems to have corrected itself.

Quite disappointing as I use the ipad for AV at our meditation center where the artwork was not only helpful but quite lovely.

The arrogance of this idiots at Apple is amazing ! Why the **** can't they respond to all these claims ?? Same happended when I had an iPod Classic, the artwork was messed up, and the solution was to download a very old iTunes just to reindex the artwork. This of course was a solution somone came up with, not Apple. And now this.... with no real solution.

COULD THEY AT LEAST GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR A**ES AND AT LEAST REPLY FOR ONCE ??? We bought an expensive product, we are entitled to some answers at least !

Hey, I'm having the very same problem with my iPod Touch going on a year and a half. I'm all up-to-date software wise, everything in iTunes is a-ok. But when I sync, my songs, artwork and playlists are messed up. Missing songs, artwork and songs within my playlists even my playlists are not in the correct order numerical or alphabetical. Did you hapen to get your problem fixed?

Thanks apple for nothing. I managed to fix my music video album artwork myself (at least I think it did).

I took everything off my ipad2 (drastic step I know), and then I re-imported it from my itunes library rather than from my hard drive direct to my ipad2 and now all the artwork appears perfectly. I used to be able to import direct from my external hard drive to my ipad (therefore bypassing itunes library), and it would work fine. However, after upgrading to ios 5 it stopped bringing over any artwork and had that ugly grey music note.

Im not sure if this would work for anyone else, but it is worth a shot.

Most of my album artwork is missing after updating to iOS 5
