Why won't iCloud allow me to send outgoing email from iPhone?
I try to send emails from my newly created iCloud account, but I get an error message saying that the server isn't working.
iPhone 4, iOS 5

I went into mail/contacts/calander, (accounts), icloud, account, advanced, smtp(outgoing mail server) and turned all servers on. Now mine is working. Good Luck
What do you mean "turned all servers on"? My iCloud server is turned on (and apparently can't be turned off). Is that what you're referencing?
I did also set iCloud as my default account.
So your outgoing mail server is iCloud SMTP Server, click on that. Your Primary server on the next page is iCloud SMTP Server, click on it. My phone shows the following on the next page.
Server - On
Host Name - iCloud SMTP Server
Use SSL - On
Authen - Apple Token
Server Port 587
I did also set iCloud as my default account.
That's exactly what mine says, except nothing can be changed, and it still doesn't work.
Give this info a shot: Cannot Send / Receive / Mac OS X and iOS devices here > iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Mail
Here is your fix..
Go to settings > iCloud > Account > make sure that your apple id is set to what it should be and the password is set to what it should be. I removed my password and put it back in and then clicked done.
Go back one screen and make sure the mail is turned on. and you are seeing at the top in the account your apple id log in email. and from there you should be good..
All of that is correct, but I still get the server error message when trying to send from my iCloud account.
I found a work around that works. Got to Settings...Icloud....account......advanced....outgoing mail server.....
Add an "other" server.
Host Name p01-smtp.mail.me.com
Put in your me.com email address as username and your Apple ID password
SSL is on
Authentication is password
Server port 587
This worked for me.....I will use this until the bug is fixed. (you may need to use P02, P03 etc) Don't make this server your primary. Leave it in "on" status in the other category.
Good luck
Also same here. If it's any consolation the iCloud and mail forums are awash with this problem. I am most disappointed that the service status is showing all ok since 9.37am UTC yesterday when it is obvious that the mail poblems they posted as resolved are are not in fact resolved. I am sorry I cannot offer any solutions, as many of those suggested by others (which I have tried) either only work temporarily, slow your mail down interminably or fail to work at all. It should work the way Apple say it should and not require work-arounds. What I find most disappointing is the lack of an ackowledgement somewhere that there is a problem and it is being addressed. Perhaps then tens of thousands of people (or more) wouldn't be wasting hours and hours trying to get it to work to no avail.
APPLE, JUST ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND I CAN THEN WAIT FOR IT TO BE RESOLVED, THAT'S ALL I AM ASKING. 😠
Hi Austin. I found this post which gives a great working solution for iOS devices. Unfortunately it can't be used in the same way on a desktop.
My problem has been fixed. Without doing anything, apparently Apple has fixed the server issue. Problem solved.
