Is iCloud totally worthless?

So...

After 2+ hours of upgrading my iMac, iPad2 and iPhone 4, I find pretty much that iCloud doesn't really work and is totally worthless.

Please correct me if my observations are incorrect:

1) One cannot take text files or MS Office files, and drop them to iCloud. One cannot save them at all if you have a Mac, because Pages in iWork has zero iCloud capability. Which make iCloud totally worthless for native Apple apps.

2) One cannot save PAGES files on an iMac and share them in the iCloud. For the same reason as above

3) One cannot save spreadsheets from Open Office or MS Excel, or even NUMBERS from the iMAC (see 1 and 2 above)

4) There is no support for just dragging and dropping any kind of file to iCloud.

Someone please explain, then, how iCloud is even a willing comparison to Dropbox.

I have to say the switch to iCloud was a huge disappointment for me as well. I thought it would add on to MobileMe. It seems that Apple's business since is oozing out somehow. If a customer is willing to pay for something (i.e.- idisk, iweb) then wamybe you should retain these services instead of getting rid of them in your "newer, better" program. That seems to be commensense to me. You can add services, but take away? Since I LOVED idisk, and no alternative was given from apple, I feel like they are pushing me away to other companies' products. So I can sync iOS stuff? When will they realize that in the business world I never see those programs. I wish I did since I prefer them, ** get real. We all have to use Word out there and store files for projects.

Goodbye iCloud. Hello SkyDrive.

I don't find the workaround entirely satisfactory. WIll continue to use Dropbox (free) to store docs and share them as needed. It's limitation (compared with the iDisk features) is that there is no Gallery. My workaround for Galleries is to use either Picasa or Gallery3 (for personal or business uses, respectively). I am getting set for the total demise of iDisk, sadly, and not looking further back than needed.

Does anyone know what the space limitation of the workaround mentioned is? And if not storing on the Cloud where you are storing the info? That seems a bit unclear. If it doesn't store on iCloud it's probably not on the cloud, which means it's not backed up.

That is a bit of stating the obvous - isnt' it?

Of course! This is only my opinion. I am a pretty representative user, and opinions aren't statistics. i.e. not all opinions are equally considered or coming from equally aware people. So you can't just say - more people think X than people who think Y = therefore X is correct...

But it is definitely only one opinion.
