I just discovered this tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2711 "Using iCloud as an iDisk". Worked perfectly, but there is an unfortunate limitation in that You can not currently access this folder from an iPad, iPhone, iPod or iCloud.com.

That's because you can't actually use iCloud as an iDisk.

Apple did finally add remote access to Time Capsules to iCloud, which resolved my main complaint about it.  Of course, that's only useful if you have a Time Capsule.  Others have turned to Dropbox to compensate for the demise of the iDisk.

I don't find the workaround entirely satisfactory. WIll continue to use Dropbox (free) to store docs and share them as needed. It's limitation (compared with the iDisk features) is that there is no Gallery. My workaround for Galleries is to use either Picasa or Gallery3 (for personal or business uses, respectively). I am getting set for the total demise of iDisk, sadly, and not looking further back than needed.

Does anyone know what the space limitation of the workaround mentioned is? And if not storing on the Cloud where you are storing the info? That seems a bit unclear. If it doesn't store on iCloud it's probably not on the cloud, which means it's not backed up.

This is not great, but I use one workaround by making a favorite folder:

    /Users/[username]/Library/Mobile Documents

Basically I use this for GoodReader and Dropbox or Insunc (for Google Docs) for everything else.

It continues to surprise me that Apple is NOT trying to make money in this space.

That's disingenuous, free Dropbox has a 2G limit, if (as many do) you want to store video/audio/photo files up there 2G will not be enough, so Dropbox will not be free.

To sum up, no, iCloud is worse the worthless. It is worse than if Apple did nothing. It destroys so many things... Catastrophic move.

    To sum up?

This one opinion, give it the weight that one opinion deserves.

That is a bit of stating the obvous - isnt' it?

Of course! This is only my opinion. I am a pretty representative user, and opinions aren't statistics. i.e. not all opinions are equally considered or coming from equally aware people. So you can't just say - more people think X than people who think Y = therefore X is correct...

But it is definitely only one opinion.

I agree, iCloud ***** I'm so tired of syncing my contacts getting duplicates, bookmarks not syncing I would think the trouble Apple had with MobileMe they would learned their lesson I love Apple products, but this attempt for them to implement a cloud base service is very poor to say the least.

    iCloud *****.

I bought an iPhone 3GS and transferred my contacts to it.

    I synced with iCloud.

iPhone 3GS was defective, so I had to exchange it.

When I activated the new phone, it wouldn't let me restore from my iCloud backup.

    What is the point?

I'll stay with the millions of users that managed to set it up correctly then.

Have tried allmost anything, even with technican skills, spent two days for getting Icloud, to do what it actually has to do! - pushing data between three simple apple units. - seems not to work in perfection.

    - Same apple ID - all options is set to 'ON' in Icloud.

    - Port 80, 443 is open for data sharing between

Icloud pushing between Iphone, Ipad, Macbook... Mail, music, contacts doesn't work, only Calender shows up with some simple scheduels info's, but not even all of them!?

Waiting desperatly for IOS6 - Wake up Apple...

Seems like this thread has been bumped. I updated my Mac to Mountain Lion, which is great, no issues yet.

I like iCloud, and it's really cool, particularly with iWork. iCloud Mail is just annoying when you already have each account setup. Notes and Reminders need a bit of work.

I will say this, is that I still think it's bad to RELY on iCloud for anything. You should ALWAYS have a physical backup of anything you find important. I just feel like I could wake up one morning, and all of my spreadsheets and docs are gone because either the Cloud is down, I don't have wi-fi, or someone stole my iDevice, wiping out my iCloud storage.
