Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

All the suggestions have not helped or do not apply in my situation. My biddest grief is the lack of wireless snsitivity. I used to be able to connect to my companies WiFi and now it will not, does not even find it unless I am directly under the access point. The Bluetooth is also less sensitive. Like I mentioned before, a 3 ft range when is used to be about 8 ft.

It appears that Apple is not listening to us here on this discussion. Well, it might be time to upgrade. Looking at droid features and capability....

Ok I'd just like to add that mine is not THAT bad. Honestly. And all these threats about switching to Android are funny to me, because my biggest complaint is that my iphone is now somewhat sluggish like an android system. I switched to iPhone from an HTC Magic (G2) because the HTC Magic was sluggish at best, and would often lock up at worst. If you want to try Android, go ahea, but this iphone is still way better than my previous experiences with my old Android phone.

I checked the same and I have lots of Low Memory records.

I still think its a memory leakage i the iOS 5.

It´s in random and when I check the dates from "Settings > About>Diagnostics & Usage >Diagnostics & Usage data >Scroll I have a Low Memory record everyday." they are when I had most problems.

When you write code for iOS they are very clear about memory handling. "clear when used"

Maybe Apple forgot this when writing iOS 5 for 3GS. Some Joke here 😁

Sometimes the battery drain in a few hours and sometime all day if lucky. It depends on using the iphone and of course which app used.

I have tried many of the tips here but not better. I clear apps in mem often and restart iphone often.

huuu what fix. 😕 or???

I update my IPAD 2 to iOS 5 and it really works like a charm and even better than before. I have not noticed any problem. From start to end the update work very well. I use the Ipad 2 every day and much. No problem.

I hope our words here reach the eyes of Apple and give us a solving update

My iPhone got sluggish with the ios 5 upgrade, but was still usable. Then, Apple compelled me to convert my MobleMe account to their iCloud. Now, sometimes I can't even make a phone call.

Yes, I have lots of problems with the phone seeming to hang, then finally failing to launch an app and returning to the home screen, but this sometimes even happens when I tap the telephone icon. I can't even make a phone call. If I shut down all apps and power cycle the device, the phone part will start working again, although sometimes I have to power-cycle it a couple of times.

My contacts reliably crashes the phone now. Really? Am I supposed to have a phone without contacts?

I would have been disappointed but motivated to buy a new phone had Apple told us that our "older" phones did not support the new OS. But, they certainly could have, should have, and I must think did know that putting ios5 on a 3G was going to be an unhappy experience. Certainly, there's enough of us on this list that it isn't just a couple of us with some bad app on our phone or something. Mine is a 3GS with 32GB memory and half of it free. If this isn't good enough, then Apple is incredibly irresponsible to generally let 3G folks upgrade.

So, tell us, Apple, what was your goal that you forgot about your customers?

again

Hi !

Same problem for me with my 3GS... i lose [too] very often service (and so.. calls).

It's not very nice; i always have to check if my iPhone has network service and if not, i have to restart it to get back network (but it loses it some minutes/hour (it's depend) later...). No any problem with WiFi....

the first functionnality for an [i]Phone is to make and get call... Since iOS5, this is a very huge problem. Apple has to fix it !

The second problem is my iPhone crashes (when i type a sms or when i launch an app... )

Obviously, all restarts consume my batterie quickly which does not hold 1 day :/

++

PS : yes, i reinstalled it 3 times as a new and no change 😟

In the beginning, there was an iPhone and a Mac laptop and a Windows desktop and by the magic of MobileMe they shared and the address book on one was the address book on another; and the event discovered long ago at the abode was recalled to me while I wandered the world. And it was good, and I was happy.

Then Apple said, you shall dwell in the MobileMe no more for we are banishing it from the kingdom, but there is an iCloud and you shall go to the cloud. And I said I would.

Then Apple said your OSX is oh-dot-one old and you must run with the Lion and I paid money and made it so.

Then Apple said your IOS is old but the new is free and it is compatible and you must go, and I made it so.

Then the laptop became slow and the desktop didn't know and the iPhone fell to its knees.

Then Apple said..... well, I don't know what Apple said. I can't talk to them and they can't talk to me, because the iPhone fell to its knees.

My phone is doing the same thing. I have tried everything and do not have iCloud enabled or sync through wifi. Just to let you know, when they upgraded to the iso4 and my husband had the iPhone 3 the same exact thing happened to his phone. It got SO slow and he was forced to upgrade to the new iPhone 4. I think it is a scam by Apple to force you to upgrade. I am pretty ****** at how slow my phone has gotten.

OK, I got some time with a tech at the Genius Bar in an Apple store today. Doing a "hard reboot" of the phone got it working again, even with the iCloud connection still enabled. I had tried only killing all the apps and power-cycling the phone, but doing the hard reboot seems to have solved it. Even if it is temporary and I have to hard reboot the phone once in a while, I think I can live with that for now.

To hard reboot, hold the on button and the home button at the same time until the phone is forced off.

Oh, subsequently opening the calendar and contacts for the first time took a long time, apparently sync'ing, but it eventaully finished successfully.

I doubt "low-end hardware" is any excuse for a company like Apple to turn your perfectly working "lo-end" iPhone into a brick.

If the 3Gs' hardware specs can't offer a descent user experince with the new iOS, then why offer the option to upgrade at all? I didn't see an iOS 5 version for my computer mouse or my flip-flops being announced!

Also the irony that iTunes "asks" if you want to upgrade is a joke: iTunes asks you to apply updates that are supposed to improve the functionality and the stability/security of your device. That's what upgrades/updates are, isn't it? Otherwise they would be asking if you want to upgrade your iPhone into a fridge, a jailbroken device or a PS3 (regardless of consequences).

No, the trick is obviously meant to force customers buy something new. I fell in the trap when I foolishly clicked on the update button for my iPhone 3G, and that became an iOS 4 branded-brick. Now it seems it's no different with iOS 5 for iPhone 3GS.

I'll be skipping this downgrade thank you.

Shame on Apple... I wonder now if they'are planning to use the same policy with osx...

I have a 3GS. I upgraded to OS5.0. I do not use iCloud. I updated all the apps. I l MAKE SURE, AS I DID BEFORE UPDATING THAT LOCATION SERVICES ARE ON ONLY FOR THOSE APPS THAT I NEED LOCATION SERVICES. My 3GS runs quicker than before. It is great. I was considering getting a 4S. I may not anymore, because this runs like a top.

Oct 29, 2011 12:03 PM in response to Matrix X2

What an *** (Matrix X2). So you suggest that users of a phone made by a company that claims to be the most consumer friendly in the world should go study the hardware specs of the systems and make a decision whether to update the OS? That sounds like what we did with Windows 3.1 and Steve Jobs beat the holy **** out of MS for that kind of approach to the market. How about Apple tests this and advises their loyal customers instead of letting millions of people conduct the Beta testing for them
