After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts.

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:

Restart..  Reset..  Restore from Backup..  Restore as New...

Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...

Turn the Phone Off... ( if it isn’t already )

Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...

Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...

Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)

    Release the Buttons...

    Turn the Phone On...

You may have to Restore as New...

Any luck Moby? im having a lag issue as well with my 3GS after the update. Generally slightly slower operation & lags in & out of apps. AnaMusic I will try your suggestions tomorrow. Thanks.

I am having the same problem too. Did AnaMusic's solution work for any of you?

Also having very slow performance in most apps on my 3GS...  Have tried the power off & on, with no change.

I have the iCloud update turned off, as some have suggested that can slow things down.

    Any other ideas?

I've tried all suggestion here, but it's still slow.

Some apps maybe needed to be updated as well.

I use Skype much and it was ok before update to iOS 5.

Now Skype lagging when chatting e.g. Takes 15-30 sec to start.

But this is general for many of my apps. It's very frustrating.

I will soon replace my iPhone with a new iPhone 4s so I can live.

An other behavior have occurred, when I'm in 3G and use the iPhone.

I loose the network service very often and loose Internet connection.

I thought I was in a shadow or weak area, but it's strong signal.

    Wifi mode is ok.

I will wait for maybe there is update nearby.

Did you try a Restore as New...?

  • caspartheghost Level 1 Level 1

You're not alone - since installing iOS5 my 3GS takes ages to load apps - even the phone and messages. It's made what was a perfectly good & reliable phone almost unusable. Apple... Fix please!

(Please, no one tell me to Restore - that doesn't fix it!)

Nothing works, went to the apple store and no help there.    They suggested the same thing as the folks earlier and didnt belive me until they tried it themselves.   This needs to be fixed because i dont think its cool that we are getting forced into the new phone.

Same problem.. called AT&T and Apple. Was advised it's because it's an "old" phone and suggested I upgrade.

They are wrong. Actual performance is fine once app is loaded. Problem occurs on Messages, Phone, Settings, ie basic stuff from Apple. Screen goes blank of 10 to 30 seconds. If it is longer than about 10 to 15 seconds chances are app will not load. App may be running in background when this occurs.

I'd hazard a guess it's trying to make some network connection or access some other resource that times out.

I also have an iPhone 3GS and it is slow as all ****. Restore did nothing. Restart did nothing. Anything else guys?

  • kidhell Level 1 Level 1

Same with my 3GS too!  Just wanted to say this for the record so Apple can start to see that this is a real problem.  Most apps on my iPhone are taking a very long time to launch, get "stuck" for a few seconds before reacting to commands and other general slowdown issues that might have something to do with processing.  Help us with an iOS5 update soon please... this *****!

I too have a 3GS and am having exactly the same problems. It seems to be everyone with a 3GS as all my friends that have one are having the same issues. This is definitely a problem that Apple needs to fix. It is so irritating that my phone which was great has now become second rate!!

  • booomerang Level 1 Level 1

I have the same problem.  We have two 3GS phones and problem is identical.  Apps launch slow.  Once in the app everything is ok.  Not nice trick to be forced to by a new phone.

Same here. I haven't tried restore as new... If anyone has, they should state it explicitly.
