iOS 5 Crash Issues

Since upgrading to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 (3G+WiFi) I am getting a lot of crashes in both Mail and Safari.

In Mail, it crashes on first start-up and then loading it a second time I get in fine. This is repeated after moving away from mail and going back in

In Safari, this appears to be on different webpages (including Apple iMessage verify mail) and happens during browsing. I can barely recall crashes on iOS 4 but find them a lot on iOS 5.

Anyone else seeing the same thing?

Spent the last two days dealing with crashes. Not just on Safari but on CNN, Pulp, Pulse etc., I did a hard reset, I erased it, I restored it and eventually with tears hovering, I nuked it and did a clean install. Nothing worked. Over an hour on the phone to Apple Support yesterday who finally decided it was a hardware issue as I had already done everything they could recommend, and I should bring the iPad in for a replacement today.

However not one to give up easily and as my iPhone worked perfectly, I gave it one last shot (the Apple store is 100kms away). One of the few differences between my iPhone and iPad was the Tap! magazine in my Newsstand. I had bought it before ios5 and it had been automatically moved into Newsstand on the iPad BUT not on the iPhone. So, I unchecked Tap!, synced and Safari etc., all worked perfectly. Left it overnight, still working perfectly this morning. So just re-checked Tap!, downloaded the magazine and it's all working as it should. Given all that, I have to assume the fault was connected to Newsstand. About to cancel my appointment with Apple.

I've not noticed any problems with mail on my iPad 1, but have had strange results in Safari with several websites. In particular, Safari has crashed while trying to pick a date on at least 3 different reservation sites, including Continental, American and Southwest Airlines.

I've also had issues with Safari when hitting the browser Back button. Several times, it's gone back to a site I visited 5+ locations back.

And, most frustrating, everything on my iPad runs exceedingly slow, whethers it's moving from one app to another, or how long it takes an app to perform an action, or how long it takes for Safari to render a page. I would guess an order of 3 to 10 times slower than immediately prior to ios 5 upgrade.

I hope Apple is listening to these posts and we get some fixes soon.

Safari App: I have been having a same issues with gen 1 ipad. Also, since the ios5 upgrade, text responce in safari lags. By this I mean that text on screen does not follow the speed of physical typing. Makes you feel like you are using a slow virtual manchine.

Music App: I have also experienced performance problems with the new music app. At times when you try to select a song, nothing happens and other times the music plays but the main app screen just goes empty of any information. The app background still remains.

Newsstand: Says I have (1) update avail. If you go into the app, there is nothing to update. Cannot get rid of the update icon to save my life.

I like some of the new feautes, but I'd probably trade back to OS4 just to get my performace back. Reminds me of the days of Vista.
