APSDaemon.exe error

Greetings,

ever since I installed iTunes 10.5 on my Windows 7 32 bit PC I get the following error every time iTunes starts.

APSDaemon.exe. The instruction at 0x5eebcfe3 referenced memory at 0x00000004. The memory could not be read.

I click OK, iTunes seems to work ok but I would prefer not to get the error. I've upgraded my ios devices to ios 5, but the error comes up as soon as iTunes starts.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

It appears there is another solution other than turning off the auto app downloads. I was able to resolve for Windows 7 by browsing to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\ and right clicking on the APSDaemon.exe and selecting properties then compatibility tab. Select "Run program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP3" and at bottom "Run as administrator". So far have not seen the issue again and have the auto download enabled in itunes.

Unchecking the Automatic Downloads worked for me, but with the new update of 10.5.1, guess what, same problem, and I left the Automatic Downloads box unchecked.

sbailey, I'm running Windows XP and when I tried to do what you said, I didn't see Windows XP at all. The latest version was Windows 2000. Would you have any idea why this is and what I can do? This is highly irritating - all I want to do is load some ringtones onto my iPhone 4 after new operating system ate my old ones.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sorry that was for Windows Vista or Windows 7. If you are already on XP then there is no need for XP compatibility. I updated to 10.5.1 as well and so far still no problems. Perhaps you can uninstall iTunes, delete any left over folders then install from scratch. Not sure what else. I suspect an update to iTunes most likely will be coming out to resolve this issue for certain. Good Luck

Hey, running APSDaemon in compatibility mode and reticking the auto downloads seems to have worked, although havent restarted the PC so time will tell. Doesnt bother me not having the auto downloads, but a fix rather than workaround would be nice.

Apple cant even work out how to put the SQLite3.dll file into the right folder, every time I update iTunes I have to copy that file into the mobile applications older

If you have tried all the options on this post like me and had no results try this.... Uninstall all apple products in your add and remove programs then go to the following folder..

C:\Users\computer_name\Roaming\Apple Computer

and delete the folders with in and restart your machine. Once restarted I was able to reinstall iTunes and run iTunes with no errors.

Same issue here as Steven Crickett... I have a Windows 7 x64 based computer setup soley for the purpose of media consumption. I use Windows Media Center for HDTV over Digital Cable (via Ceton InfiniTV with a CableCard) and iTunes for music on the PC itself as well as via two AirPort Express devices for whole house music. Every version of iTunes before 10.5 worked great. For reference, I leave iTunes running 24/7 to enable the ability to use the Remote app on my iPhone, this way I can play music from my phone whenever I like and there's no need to go to the media PC to open iTunes first. In any case, as soon as I upgraded to version 10.5 I too had the remote control issue within Media Center and the navigation controls on the remote control ceased to function. I had to close iTunes in order to use the remote control again, which of course defeats the purpose of using it with the Remote app on the iPhone. Thankfully, I was able to locate iTunes version 10.3.1 online for Windows 7 64-bit and after reverting, everything works perfectly again. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does iTunes 10.5.1 resolve this issue??

I have windows XP and am having CPU processes at 95% with both applemobliedevice and apsdaemon.exe ever since doing the update to the newest version of itunes. I unistalled all itune apple software , bojour, quicktime. rebooted , reinstalled itunes, rebooted before starting itunes, and still had the same problems. I uninstalled applemobiledevice, solved that issue but still have apsdaemon.exe...running at 95%. Ended that process but reboot and its there again. I was thinking of my next purchase being an apple also....? Not sure I want all this iphone-touch pad stuff interfering with itunes. I use itunes for podcasts and some music. Sounds like its getting to big to manage all these apps and keep it working. I need help!!

Try uninstalling and re-installing your anti-virus / computer protection program. I use PC Tools. It cleared it right up. When I re-installed my PC Tools software it pointed out that 2 or three (bonjour.. and another one I think) wanted to run as proxys I said No since I have Cable internet. I don't know if that made a difference either but no problems now.

You will see earlier in this thread there are 2 solutions that seem to work. The turning off the automatic downloads in itunes settings or the compatibility settings for Vista and Windows 7. You do not necessarily have to have auto download to iTunes for their ipods to work. So dont fret to much on the christmas gifts due to this. The iPods will work fine. All that really does is push content that is purchased from the device to iTunes automatically. You can always ask iTunes to go get it manually. I am sure Apple will resolve this in a future update but I suspect its not high on the list sinnce its sorta of a minor problem.

The user shouldn't HAVE to do anything to fix the problem. Apple should just FIX IT! On my computer, there is no listing for APSDaemon in msconfig, WinPatrol, in the services list, or anywhere else, so disabling the service is not an option. The process is using 50% of my CPU and iTunes is using the other 50%. Even starting the TaskManger is almost impossible, much less killing the process. I have to hit the power switch (thank goodness it's configured to turn the computer off!). This acts like an invasive malware program. Does it report back home? Probably. There's no way of knowing. It's certainly not letting anything else run on the computer and it MUST be doing something .....

I DO NOT have an iPod, iPad, or any other wireless device (Apple or otherwise) - so I should have the option of NOT installing the iPod Service, iPad Service, Bonjour Service, Apple Update, Apple Mobile Support, Apple Application Support, APSDaemon, and qttask.exe. WinPatrol repeatedly asks me if I want to allow qttask to autorun on bootup, and NO, I don't want it to run! Why is it so persistent? Why can't I stop it from trying to always run? What's the motive for that? Based on experience, I assume that the next update of iTunes and/or Quick Time will have another new program starting that I don't know about and will have to look for. That's why I don't want updates automatically - I don't want to spend all my time figuring out what slowed my computer down (well actually stopped it from working).

For all of you who are totally enamored and infatuated with Apple products and think I'm just bashing Apple - the same rant can be applied to Adobe Products (Acrobat and Flash Updaters, Adobe Air, Adobe Update, for example), Microsoft Products (Silver Light, Media Player, Internet Explorer, for example), Real Time, Rhapsody, Google, Yahoo, and a host of others. (Take a look at how many 'Updaters' and 'Update services' are running for Google and Yahoo, for example)

The point is that these programs act like viruses and worms - they use up the resources and slow the computers down to a crawl. These companies need to stop loading our computers up with unproven programs so they can track our habits and target ads to us. They need to provide reliable products that don't take over and aren't so invasive! And they need to give us the option of NOT loading these things instead of adding them on the sly (hmmmm, on the QT as in QTTASK for example?). In most cases, they don't even TELL you these things are being installed, so they certainly don't give you an option. That behavior is exactly the behavior of viruses, worms, and trojans - so do you think I should just allow that behavior because they are Apple, Microsoft, Google, etc.? No matter what 'service' a program does, if it takes over control of your computer or prevents anything else from being done, it is NOT a very useful service. It is poor programming!
