Q: IOS 5 wifi wpa2 enterprise problem (bug?)

I think i kinda fixed it, what i did was i put my phone back in to restore mode manually (I do not know if that helped) then i reconnected to itunes and it booted up with the internet after a couple of hours of installing and updating.

I had same problem here too, I had a error report when update, say some contact field is missing

other than that, all seen ok aftern restore, but it always ask me restore again when I connect to itunes.

I choose delete the backup (I first check all email, contact, message, apps, photo etc etc had inside my phone),

then Itune won't ask to restore again. 

I reconnect to itune, sync as normal.

Then I choose restore. and my backup(earlier), it reinstall IOS5, and restore again.

After that, all ok, I discover the receiving from my wifi is ok again, signal power same as before.

I 'forget' all WPA2 router around and add one by one again.  Works prefect

I also discovered after first time install IOS5, the chinese input method will get a 'slow start', but ok after first

chinese in show up, but after I restore it again, all work back fine again also, hope it can help

Same problem here but with iPad2.

I am having the same issue with all iOS devices on our enterprise network.

I have tried to change the network signals to A only, N only, G only, B only on both broadcast bands. I have also tried not running in mixed mode (WPA Enterprise) - no go. I have tried reseting the network configurations on device Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings with no luck.

After doing so, I noticed that the network signal is still up/down even before attempting to connect and obtaining a server certificate. This seems like the certificate is not the factor in my particular situation.

Switched to WEP security and it works just fine - no issues at all. This is not a good solution for our enterprise though. What else is there to try? Seems Apple's forums would be flooded with this issue if was related to WPA security in general.

I had the same problem and pulling my hair off, but wasn't sure about the certificate problem. Tried all the settings didn't work. I re-booted my wi-fi router (netgear), then it's working fine. If you haven't tried it try it.

it seems I have the same problem as well. Just updated the iPod of my son to iOS-5. Before, the access to our WLAN did work OK, but after the update the symptoms are as described. The iPod does not get an IP number. And this although we use an Apple TimeCapsule with up-to-date software as an access point.

The WLAN is hidden (but the iPod did "recall" the network name), the security is WPA2 personal.

It really seems to be a BUG!

the workaround that worked was:

- set a static IP number on the iPod

- set the static IP also on the router (a Netgear RP614)

=> avoid DHCP for the iPod.

Can someone explain why this problem shows up after the update to iOS-5??

I have an Ipad (1). Had iOS 4.3.5. on it before (or whatever the last update was before 5.) and it worked fine with any wlan.

Now, it can't connect to secured Wi-Fi. It sees the networks but the wheel keeps on spinning forever.

Data rates where I live are pricey and as a student, I can't really afford a plan, instead I used to rely on public Wi-Fi access spots (like cafes). Now, that option is gone for me until Apple will fix this!

Regarding wmorrison's post, I tried it once more at a cafe yesterday with the same results for my iPad. Connected fine to their wlan with my phone (nokia e51) and my g/f's phone (samsung galaxy). Looked at wlan settings, the network had WEP encryption...go figure...

I was able to work out a fix for my particular situation today. I have been experiencing up/down connectivity with all of our iOS5 devices on the corporate network.

WPA2 Enterprise

The Cisco E4200 routers we use have dual band so they broadcast with 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies. I had to set the authentication mode to WPA2 Enterprise Mode on the 2.4 GHz band and disabled the 5 GHz band completely. When I tried to use only 5 GHz band, it seemed to work for iOS5 but other devices had connectivity issues. The 2.4 GHz band was the most stable for all devices.

I verify this workaround: downgrading from WPA2 (Personal in our case) to WEP solved the problem.

I have been able to get steady network signal for iPad 1st gen using WPA Enterprise encryption. WPA2 still not working after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1. Can someone verify if this is a fix for iPad2 and iPhone4S?

If you are still having trouble try WEP or WPA and disabling one of the broadcast bands - likely 5GHz. Seems most of the problems are stemming from WPA2 Personal and Enterprise encryptions. Also, there are some mobile devices that will not find a broadcast signal unless it is visible. As long as you are using some form of encryption, making your signal visible shouldn't be huge security risk.

I dont know how are we going to change the router in the public? lets say we hang out at starbucks and having problem to connect to the internet using their wifi system? we ask them to change their setting to WEP or bla bla2, or maybe its a porpose or a colaboration with apple with telco service company to reduce WIFI signal and make more people use expensive ****** data plan service as internet services??? Come on just admit this or please fix the god dam wifi bug with a new OS 5 fix thanks.

so, if I am using antamedia server (hotspot software) what will be the advice for me to tell the antamedia people to change? am using IBM X server series embedded with windows server 2008 r2 with antamedia hoptspot software.

Just wanted to inform you that I've created a ticket for Apple to look into this issue in their BugReport Website, their engineers are currently looking into it and i'm trying to give them as much details as possible so we can figure out what's causing us the headaches. I've provided them with my own experience of the problem and also gave them the link to this forum thread so they can see what everyone is explaining. Will provide you guys with an update here once i'm able to get an answer from Apple or we get to figure out what's the problem.

How can it be an iOS 5 problem while it works for fine on my iPhone with iOS 5 but not with my iPad with iOS 5?
