Asking Siri for the time??

I have the same problem. The trick is to deactive the location settings for Siri (Settings>Location Services>Siri>Off). Then you can ask Siri "What time is it?" And Siri will tell you the time.

I guess we'll have to deal with this bugs for now until Siri is no longer a Beta. My recomendation: Just keep asking for the time and the city. Turning off the Location Services is a pain in the back specially when asking for the weather.

It's a great way to get it to tell you where you are though, especially as in the UK it won't actually tell you your location if you ask for it - beta issues?

I just got a new replacement 4s and it works differently to the old one - less efficently somehow. I now have to ask it the time in London to get it. fml

I'm having the same problem. It is really annoying me as I used the same phrase in the old voice control and it worked just fine. I used it almost every day on my bike to see just how late I was running for work!

If I ask "what time is it in Oxford?" Siri replies just fine but a simple "what time is it?" give the same nonsense answer that you are getting. Siri is trying to be too clever and use the ezxact location, down to street level, rather than just more generally (ie city or country level).

Very very annoying and I'll be delighted if anyone can provide a solution to this!

Not working for me. Time/Date/weather. I'm in the uk England, also I am not near any major towns or cities. Not sure if it is related. But I am not near any time zone boundaries. Uk is all Bst. (Weston European time?)

Mine works fine for the time. And I don't even have to ask for the weather directly. I can say, "Do I need an umbrella today" and it will give me the full report. I can also ask it for the time and/or weather in Honolulu or Paris.

I'm wondering if your Siri app isn't corrupted like so many others who can't get ANY answers. ...my husband included. His worked fine for a week. Now, Siri just keeps saying there's a problem with the network or she doesn't understand. We haven't been able to fix it.

I'm another one - this used to work just fine for me when I got my 4S, I could say "What time is it" and Siri would tell me. For the last week or so if I ask I know get "I'm sorry, I don't know what time it is in xxxx road". Likewise, if I ask what the weather is, rather than tell me the local weather it will say "The weather for England is..."

However, I've got another glitch which I think could be related. When I've used location services with any of my iPhones, including my 4S when I got it, especially indoors where the GPS signal is poor or there is none, it's quickly got a fix on my approximate correct location presumably using WiFi and mobile phone mast data, and then within a short while it has refined this once it's got a GPS fix.

My 4S started doing this when I first got it, but now when I try it always places me about 30 miles to the east of my correct location until it eventually manages to get a GPS fix after a couple of minutes. I'm guessing it doesn't actually think this is where I am, its just that the only non-GPS fix it can get is so vague that it knows it's somewhere 'about' there, give or take 30 miles. And I think this might explain the Siri glitch; when Siri can't get a reasonably accurate location fix, it only gives generic weather and throws a wobbly not knowing which time zone you are in to report the weather. I'm not sure why location services are this innacurate on the 4S, like I say my previous iPhones have managed to get it down to about 250m without any GPS assistance and my two daughters' iPod Touches both manage the same on WiFi alone.

I've just tried an experiment that seems to support my theory above:

I asked Siri the time and got "I can't tell you the time in Limes Road". (There's no Limes Road anywhere near here)

I checked the Maps app and it was reporting me a long way away with a large 'margin of error' blue circle.

I waited until Maps had picked up a GPS signal and correctly refined my location

Asked Siri the time again and got the correct response.

So it looks like when you ask Siri the time, unless it can get a quick and accurate fix on your location, it fails.

Same happens for weather - gives me a general forecast for England unless it's already got a fix on my location.

I just asked, "Siri, What time is it?", and she promptly replied :"It is 7:23 pm. Good evening Ron". Also a small clock clock is displayed.

I then asked 'what is the date, and she replied correctly.

Mine's working fine.

A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't get Seri or for that matter the microphone to work very well and gave up trying for a while, but for the last couple of days, voice has been really quick and almost flawless. So has Seri.

Hi, I also had this problem. When asked the time or date, Siri would reply "I'm sorry I don't know the time/date in [my address]. My solution was to delete my address from contacts and then re-enter it. It now works okay.

Im in the UK when I ask the time it says it cant tell me the time then states my street name. But If i say good morning when its afternoon it will correct me and give the correct time.

So it knows where I am even though its not supposed to work outside of the US and it knows the time, Its not making the connection between the 2. If I say to Siri Im in manchester it says ok then if I asked the time it says the time in manchester is xxxx,

Im sure they will get round to fixing it as its only a beta.

Another thing to note the UK only has 1 time zone so it shouldnt need to know your exact location, just that your in the UK and the current date.

It may relate to having turned off the automatic time zone checking to conserve battery power....

I got a replacement phone and have similar probems, Siri doesn't know the time or date and when asked for the weather, show it for a completely different city (allbeit nearby)!

Did you have any problems setting Siri on again after putting it off? As there's a message about information being removed from Apple Servers...

I tried a similar experiment. With location services on, Siri doesn't know the time where I am. If I turn location services off, he can tell me the time when I just ask, "What's the time?". With it on, and asking for the UK time, he can tell me.

But he answers with the 24 hour clock, which can sound confusing, for instance "22.12" sounds like "twenty to twelve". I tried asking him to tell me the time using the twelve hour clock, and he gave me GMT, which is an hour behind British Summer Time, which we are in now.

Any ideas on getting Siri to use the twelve hour clock accurately?
