album art not showing in iTunes 10.5

I'm having an issue where some of my album art work is randomly not displaying. It was there prior to the 10.5 update and it still shows up under more info.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Is the issue only with mp3 files, or all audio file types? Just in the Finder, or also in iTunes? You state that it appears to be a random issue not affecting all of your song files; have you noticed any similarities among the files it happens with?

Numerous users are having similar problems on both Mac OS and in Windows platforms as you can see within these discussions. "Get Info" does not seem to show the art either for us. You stated "More Info", but this is not an option under Mac OS, rather under Windows OS. I have a new iMac running Lion 10.7.2 (Lion came pre-installed) with iTunes 10.5 (141), and no mp3 file artwork will be visible in the Finder if that file was created within iTunes under "create mp3 version" or if it is any new mp3 file that you are bringing into the computer or created with any other application.

All artwork appears within iTunes, or in the Finder if it is a song that was originally in the iTunes library prior to the 10.5 update, whether it is an m4a or mp3 file format. I spoke to an Apple technician about two weeks ago, and was informed that Apple is aware of the situation, but had no information as to a timeframe of when the issue will be resolved, or even if it is currently being worked on. My suggestion to you is to get as many users to physically phone in to Apple care (Tech Support) and report the issue. When numerous calls, as well as more postings in these discussions appear, there is a better chance that it will be looked into more seriously.

For anyone who may have tried using an application to edit the ID3 Tag and add album artwork/cover art, I tried this and the following is what I came across. As stated before, the artwwork for these mp3 files will not be visible in the Finder. I added 2 full albums in mp3 format I had on a flash drive (thumb drive) to an ID3 Tag editor. The artwork actually did show up within the editor. When I plugged the USB Flash Drive to my HDTV, the artwork was not visible, just the generic 2 beamed eight notes (mp3/musical notes icon for any non musicians reading this...ha ha) icon. Frustrated, I said, "Lord, what is going on here? Please give me a solution." Well, He did. He led me to discover an option to convert the files from an ID3v2.4 to an ID3v2.3 format. Now, when I plugged in the USB Flash Drive to my HDTV, all artwork was visible.

This of course did not change anything within the Mac's Finder; the artwork is still not visible there. Many users are debating whether it is an issue with the actual OS or with solely iTunes, and whether the unlinking of iTunes and QuickTime has anything to do with it. Right now, it seems more probable that it is an issue directly atributed to the version of iTunes, since others with older OS versions don't experience this issue untill they upgrade iTunes to 10.5.

Greetings -

I am using Win 7 64-bit, iTunes 10.5.1.42. I am also experiencing an issue where when viewing my library the artwork is not visible. To be clear, it's not visible when viewing the library in 'album list' but there when viewing using the 'Grid' or 'Cover Flow' views.

When I choose 'Get Info' it appears in the Summary and Artwork tabs.

I haven't placed the file into my iDevice yet, but I suspect they will view the artwork just fine. I rebooted (maybe it's my machine?) but no change. Interesting, the '5-star' rating is not viewable either as well as artist info in the 'album list' for the songs where the album art is not visible.

It's annoying when you are anal like myself about my music and if it's supposed to show album artwork then SHOW the artwork or at least fix why it doesn't on 'some' songs.

I guess that's what weird, it's only certain songs. They are on the same drive as others that work. I am not sure why this is happening either but it's annoying as at first you think 'where's my album art?!' but then see that it's there just not showing up..

Well,I don't know about you but this worked for me and was rather painless and a little embarassing.... I was fiddling around in iTunes and trying to figure out why artwork in the Album List wasn't working for 'some' songs when I saw under the 'View' option an item that says 'Always Show Artwork'.

I selected this option and waddya know....freaking Artwork for my songs that was missing has appeared.

That's kind of, a little bit, embarrassing....

I have this problem too. Here's what I do to solve it.

1 - Right-click (or control-click) on the first song of the album with this problem

2 - Choose option "Get Info"

3 - Click the "Artwork" button

4 - Drag the artwork image to a folder (such as your Desktop, for instance). That will copy the image to this place.

5 - Delete the image from the song and press OK

That should make the album art for that album to appear. However, we don't want to leave that song without its artwork, right? So...

6 - Repeat steps from 1 to 3

7 - Choose "Add..." and pick the image you just saved on your desktop or on a specific folder.

8 - Press OK

I believe that will force iTunes to refresh its cache and reapply the artwork. That will also make this artwork appear on your iDevices and on a remote iTunes connected to your library. Good luck. 😉

I have the newest iTunes software on a WinXP computer, and "lost" the album art when I loaded my Windows music files into iTunes. After a lot of Googling, I found a method that worked for most of my newer files. Using the Album View view, with Always Show Artwork selected, right click on a song for which no art is showing. From the right click menu, select Get Album Artwork. This only works for songs that live in the iTunes store, and doesn't seem to find older compilations, but it's an easy way to get a lot of the artwork. You have to be logged in to the Store (main menu item in iTunes folder) for this to work.
