There is no info from Apple that Apple is working on it. Based on this I assume that it is not working on it.

THere is also no official word from Apple that they are working on the next model of the iPhone or an iPad 3. Guess that means those aren't going to happen, either, then, by your logic.

Now you are comparing apples with elephants and you are generalizing my logic. Any logic can be proven wrong by applying to a more general situation. "Apple has never gone bankrupt so Apple will never go bankrupt". See?

Specifically, there has been:

- iOS 5.0.0 beta,

- iOS 5.0.0

- iOS 5.0.1 beta

- iOS 5.0.1 (build 1)

- iOS 5.0.1 (build 2)

- iOS 5.1 beta 1

- iOS 5.1 beta 2

and neither of them has had the switch and also there was no mention of switch! It is very easy to see that Apple is not working on the switch when looking to this info.

I came to IPhone 4S from an Android phone, and honestly I'm disappointed . The switch between 2g and 3g networks is one of the reasons. In my area the 3g signal is very fluctuating, and I have more intrerupted calls then good calls. I hope Apple will came up with a solution for this problem. With this stubbornly from Appel, they will lose more clients.

Happy New Year to you all.

P.S. Sorry for my English.

I fail to see how this is important. I suppose if you are hiking, and you want to talk for 14 hours while hiking, and you are away from A/C power, it might be handy, but, realistically, how many people NEED this. And it you go to 2g, then you lose the ability to do data and talk at the same time, and 2g data is glacial. If 3G is not available, the phone switches automatically, so where is the problem? I had the ability to switch on my old phone, but never once in two years, used it.

Much ado about nothing.

As has been said several times throughout this thread, it would be a non-issue if 3G was reliable and there was adequate bandwidth.

There are regular occurrences in which there is 3G signal, but not enough bandwidth to make or receive calls, or send/receive data. In this situation, the ability to toggle between EDGE and 3G is the only way the device is usable for communication. The radio will not automatically switch to EDGE when there is a 3G signal even if communication is not possible over 3G.

This happens often in the Denver/Boulder/Colorado Springs areas, and I have personally had the same experiences in other metro areas throughout the country with multiple generations of iPhones.

It may be a non-issue with users in other areas with less network saturation, but it is a very big deal for customers in some areas.

i am also looking for this feature since upgrading to a 4s last week...

one situation where this comes in handy for me is I attend a lot of concerts during the year and at a few venues, 3g converage is there but bandwidth is reduced so much while i have bars, i cant even send a text, if i turn off 3g i am able to send texts. this often happens to me at Madison Square Garden in NYC, American Arilines Arean in Miami, and the Greek Theater in Berekely.

Apple!!!! Pls fix this problem!!! This is important in Malaysia where 3G coverage is not strong. I'm usually getting 1 to 2 bars 3G network, it's slow and consume lots of battery!!!! Most of the time edge is enough for me to receive third party sms and email. We have been told the 4s consume less battery and I guess this is not the truth. Very very upset.
