The iPhone 4S includes a combination CDMA/GSM chip, which the Nokia model you specified does not include.
If the option were available with the combination CDMA/GSM chip, it would not have been excluded.
Yes, nokia only for GSM.
So, is there any way to do something with CDMA/GSM on this chip?
If there is no way to switch off 3G?
What if the only way I see is to increase the rate, when the 3G signal switches to 2G.
Because when 3G is very low - u can't do anything at all, even a call, but still not switching to 100% good 2G net available.
If there was a "rule" : if 3G less than 50% - auto switch to 2G. Actually if u set up a rule "less than 100%" then there will be the same as the 3G off switch.
is it possible to make on software level. Or the switch between 3G and 2G is also done by the chip itself?

Dec 27, 2011 8:58 PM in response to SKIF.by transmogrification,The HP Veer also uses the Qualcomm RTR8605. The HP Veer is GSM only. I don't believe this is the hybrid CDMA/GSM chipset radio in question.
On a related note, it appears that the HP Veer also does not contain the 3G/2G toggle in the US, because of AT&T restrictions. Here's the link to the HP forums concerning a toggle for the HP Veer:
http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-veer/300872-unlocled-att-veer-not-att.html
Looks like the iPhone 4S isn't the only phone without a toggle.
Hope this helps.

There is no info from Apple that Apple is working on it. Based on this I assume that it is not working on it. -

Now you are comparing apples with elephants and you are generalizing my logic. Any logic can be proven wrong by applying to a more general situation. "Apple has never gone bankrupt so Apple will never go bankrupt". See?
Specifically, there has been:
- iOS 5.0.0 beta,
- iOS 5.0.0
- iOS 5.0.1 beta
- iOS 5.0.1 (build 1)
- iOS 5.0.1 (build 2)
- iOS 5.1 beta 1
- iOS 5.1 beta 2
and neither of them has had the switch and also there was no mention of switch! It is very easy to see that Apple is not working on the switch when looking to this info.

Dec 30, 2011 9:01 AM in response to enx23by rockmyplimsoul,Just because it's not in Beta does not mean its not being worked on. There's a lot behind the scenes that NO ONE outside of Apple knows about.

Dec 31, 2011 10:19 AM in response to waterblaze123by laurentiufrompitesti,I came to IPhone 4S from an Android phone, and honestly I'm disappointed . The switch between 2g and 3g networks is one of the reasons. In my area the 3g signal is very fluctuating, and I have more intrerupted calls then good calls. I hope Apple will came up with a solution for this problem. With this stubbornly from Appel, they will lose more clients.
Happy New Year to you all.
P.S. Sorry for my English.

Dec 31, 2011 10:56 AM in response to SKIF.by transmogrification,Does Apple have a habit of making official statements via the Apple User Support Forums?

Dec 31, 2011 10:59 AM in response to enx23by deggie,Probably because the feature is not available in the Qualcomm chip. They can't program what isn't available to them.

Dec 31, 2011 2:46 PM in response to SKIF.by rphunte42,I fail to see how this is important. I suppose if you are hiking, and you want to talk for 14 hours while hiking, and you are away from A/C power, it might be handy, but, realistically, how many people NEED this. And it you go to 2g, then you lose the ability to do data and talk at the same time, and 2g data is glacial. If 3G is not available, the phone switches automatically, so where is the problem? I had the ability to switch on my old phone, but never once in two years, used it.
Much ado about nothing.
