Jan 5, 2012 6:01 AM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,One question. Are the APIs used to toggle 3G/2G with the Infineon GSM radio chipset the same as the required APIs needed to toggle GSM 3G/2G on the Qualcomm hybrid radio chipset used by the iPhone 4S?

Jan 5, 2012 11:28 AM in response to transmogrificationby igarrik,Wow, this is insulting. When i have cellular data ON (3g ON) - my iphone 4s loses the whole network every 5 min. When i switch cellular data OFF i disable my edge connection, as our carrier doesn't have an 3g. So i have only two options - NO internet or NO network at all. This is wrong. Apple, you need to fix it.

Jan 6, 2012 5:58 AM in response to transmogrificationby AdnanB,Have no clue... but rest assured, if it is possible to turn off 3G on the 4S a jailbreak will reveal it. So we'll know once and for all whether the lack of it is hardcoded in the chip or whether the toggle was simply removed for other reasons.
Now we just have to be patient and wait for the jailbreak to find out... or the iOS 5.1 update, whichever comes first.
I say the 5.1 update too because, at this point, I find it hard to believe that if turning off 3G is possible on the 4S that Apple will still leave the toggle out. I think they've probably received enough complaints to put it back if the 4S is capable of doing it.
So we'll have to wait and see.

Jan 6, 2012 6:54 AM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,Huh? Your post isn't logical. The toggle was never there. How can Appple put back something. That was never there?

Jan 6, 2012 10:23 AM in response to transmogrificationby AdnanB,Lol, no need to pick on my words. My point was clear, but by "back" I mean like with their previous phones.

Jan 6, 2012 11:26 AM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,Yeah, not to nit pick, but didn't previous iPhones use radios of a completely different design and manufacturer than the iPhone 4S?
-
Jan 6, 2012 11:38 AM in response to transmogrificationby AdnanB,Yes. What's your point?
I didn't say there is certainly a way to turn off 3G. I said IF it's possible, we'll find out with the jailbreak or with the next OS update.

Seems your post got deleted and rightfully so. That link you posted is a scam site, because there is no JB for 4S yet. I hope you didn't waste your money on those crooks.

Jan 6, 2012 12:50 PM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,Maybe, we will find out. There is no guarantee of that. I guess you are far more optimistic than I. Doesn't the iPhone 4S even have an entirely different baseband than previous GSM iPhones? Just askin'!

Jan 6, 2012 1:21 PM in response to transmogrificationby AdnanB,Dude, I'm just as clueless as you. I'm just saying that if it's possible, it'll happen. But I'm just as much in the dark as you are!
So let's just wait and find out.

Jan 6, 2012 1:29 PM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,Overstating the obvious, while calling others clueless. Nice. I am just asking relevant real questions. Are you afraid of questions?

Jan 6, 2012 1:55 PM in response to transmogrificationby AdnanB,Are you kidding me? It's just a manner of speech. Don't be so sensitive.
I'm just saying I don't know anything.

Jan 6, 2012 3:43 PM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,That's fine to speak for yourself. I have no problem with that.
-
Jan 6, 2012 3:51 PM in response to transmogrificationby AdnanB,Lol whatever. If you know more than anyone else, please share such insight instead of asking rhetorical questions.

Jan 6, 2012 4:27 PM in response to AdnanBby transmogrification,And hijacking this thread diverting it from the real issue here doesn't serve any useful purpose either. Let's end it.
