Jan 9, 2012 8:12 PM in response to transmogrificationby tscavetti,You are a human model of the density principle. It's been there with every other iPhone, so OBVIOUSLY that's what others are referring to, whether their technical grammar is correct or not. And your example is dumb because it is not a parallel situation. They did not replace that function with another technology, they reduced the level of control and effectiveness of the current technology, which is a step backwards if you are unfortunate enough to have AT&T. If a shoe company decided to make a shoe with one lace and no one could tie their shoe, I'm sure people would call for them to bring 'back' the other lace even though it was not ever there in the new shoe model. They are obviously referring to the history of the 2nd lace and who would be petty enough to bother them repeatedly about their wording. Who cares anyway? Go away :)

Jan 9, 2012 8:14 PM in response to SG Guyby transmogrification,Whether Velcro performs the same function as laces is subjective, any more than a redesigned auto 2G/3G toggle is subjective. It's that some prefer a choice, rather than being told Velcro only.
The ability of the iPhone 4S to switch to 2G was never omitted. It was an auto function. For me, the auto 3G/2G toggle function with the iPhone 4S performs quite nicely. I just had the opportunity to experience its' feature yesterday, in fact. It worked just like it was supposed to without a problem. With my iPhone 4, I don't think I ever used the toggle unless I wanted to do a speed test of the EDGE network.
I am glad to see that the manual toggle has been introduced to the iPhone 4S, for those in trouble signal areas, where it might be bennificial. For me, I haven't set seen a need.

Jan 9, 2012 9:58 PM in response to transmogrificationby SG Guy,I can see more clearly now where you're coming from
You're coming from a rhetorical viewpointUnfortunately most of us are experiencing real problems (unable to make calls etc) with the lack of this toggle - and are coming at it from a practical perspective.
Really, since you don't have a problem - don't understand why you're here in the first place. You are neither sympathic nor helping out with the situation.... this makes me question the relevance of your previous posts
What I want to say is that ... there're many variables at play here - you may not be affected ... but it doesn't mean other aren't too
Anyway, I'm glad that the 4s works for you well.......
Cheers!

Jan 9, 2012 10:07 PM in response to SG Guyby unicohijo86,CNET reported that Apple plans on putting the 3G/EDGE toggle back for the the 3rd build of iOS 5.1 beta version. The go signal has been given to the developers, so those affected by poor 3G coverage or battery problems can wait for that.

Jan 9, 2012 10:54 PM in response to waterblaze123by cooldash87,Your request have been heard. IOS 5.1 beta 3 shows the signs of disabling 3G. So expect the 5.1 to fix your problem !

Jan 9, 2012 11:07 PM in response to SG Guyby transmogrification,Thank you SG Guy! You are so welcoming and inviting to others who don't share or support your rhetoric. I didn't realize that Apple User Support Forums were restricted to user complaints. Thank you for attacking my character as well. Sorry if I have been too critical.
I really find blanket statements that "most of us are experiencing real problems with the lack of this toggle" as insulting. Please provide some real stats to back that up. Is that too critical for you?
I consider my viewpoint an analytical viewpoint, which I am sure can be viewed as critical. This a critical issue. Being critical is important. The iPhone 4S has many different hardware components involved. These forums are here also to ask critical questions. Yes. The iPhone 4S has never had the toggle. Sorry, if that is too critical for you.
Everyone I've talked to about the toggle, that has an iPhone or iPhone 4S, don't even care. One person actually said, "Wow! Why would I use that?"
Have a great night SG Guy. I wish you peace.

Jan 10, 2012 1:33 AM in response to iceacheby joeltudor,Just got iphone 4s today to improve workflow using siri for txt messages.
My home office requires 3G OFF for my carrier to show 3-4bars reception.
3G ON gives 1 bar and often 'Call Failed' messages.
No good !! Australia is a big country an only 1 carrier has good reception but its rates r thru the roof.
Vodaphone offers unlimtied calls but needs 3G OFF !!
Upgrade this in next software patch pls apple or i'll go back to the iphone 4. (returning 4s to retailer)

Jan 10, 2012 2:00 AM in response to waterblaze123by laurentiufrompitesti,With iOS 5.1 beta 3 solved the problem with 3G toggle. I'm verry happy that Apple heard us and put the 3G off option back! I just made the update and for the moment I'm very happy with it, the only thing that I feld and don't like is that the sound volume for the ringer is a little slower, but is not an a big thing.
Thank you all and to Apple for the 3G off option!

Jan 10, 2012 3:32 AM in response to waterblaze123by scion59,What I find amusing is the change of direction this discussion has taken. all of a sudden people are now correcting the grammar and terms others use to make a point. Also the silence that has befallen the technical experts who used to snear down their noses at us less knowledgable members, If indeed the switch is going to be available in ios 5.1 then get off your high horse, hold your hands up and admit you were wrong in your assumptions that you are the great and powerful OZ and you know everything there is to know about chips and radio signals and subroutines etc. Maybe next time you will spare a thought for us mere mortals who refuse to accept that a software/firmware command written and implimented by MAN (not machine) can be undone or re-written by MAN. Cos when the day comes that Man can't do that, then we are looking at artifical intelegence with self awareness, and we all know how that turned out for the Terminator... lol
Lighten up guys

Jan 10, 2012 4:14 AM in response to Codeusby AdnanB,Indeed. I wasted a few minutes of typing on that guy and even got modded for it, weird that he wasn't but anyways.
I bet he pulled the same stunt when multitouch gestures were restored on iPad 1, objecting to the use of the word "back" and "restore" in that context as well. He should go troll around the different news sites because they're all using the same vocabulary. That should keep him busy for the next, hmm, 3 months.
Anyway, this is awesome news. Time to buy a 4S.

Jan 10, 2012 11:22 AM in response to wiredzenby high expectations,There are reasons for wanting to turn 3G off - example - the phone connects to a 3G tower and or signal and keeps dropping or not connecting calls - on my 3Gs I would turn off 3G it would disconnect from the ailing tower and when I turned it back on , it would reset or connect ot a better tower or signal.. also, if 3G is showing 1 bar - I tunr it off and and would have almost full bars of the EVDO.. or what ever the other version was called.
I can not find that option on the 4s.. only cell data off.. is that it?
