Mar 7, 2012 1:44 PM in response to KiltedTimby Matt NewBones,Yep, that's what I questioned right back on about page 3 or 4 of this string in a round about way. I think you're right in that iPhones served by CDMA only carriers might not get the update.

Mar 7, 2012 4:25 PM in response to rphunte42by AdnanB,It's confirmed that AT&T users have been left out from getting the switch back. Could be due to what you said about turning off their 2G network completely or some other carrier-specific issue.
In any case, the switch is back and for anyone who doesn't have it it's a carrier issue now, so address your complaints to them. (except CDMA customers because they *can't* have that switch)

It would be appreciated (by me anyway, can't speak for others here that will just be mad anyway).

Mar 7, 2012 5:00 PM in response to AdnanBby rockmyplimsoul,If it's true that AT&T customers don't have the switch in 5.1, at least AT&T's 4S customers now get a "4G" status indicator to impress their CDMA friends LOL!
-
Mar 7, 2012 5:16 PM in response to deggieby AdnanB,No official source, but on every message board I've seen discussing 5.1, the only ones saying they didn't get the switch back have been AT&T customers. Everyone else has acknowledged that it's back on their 4Ss.
This could be the reason why: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/att-to-end-2g-service-offers-free-3g-phone-u pgrades/

Mar 7, 2012 5:17 PM in response to waterblaze123by apoartar,I have a factory unlocked 4S that I use in the U.S. on Tmobile and after updating to iOS 5.1 I do have the seperate 3G on/off button, so of course I shut it off being that 3G is not supported by Tmobile for the iPhone. We'll see if it changes anything with the battery drain issue too.

Mar 7, 2012 5:18 PM in response to rockmyplimsoulby AdnanB,LOL, I'm so glad I'm not on AT&T. They're so lame to request such a change. I'm sure it wasn't Apple's idea to use "4G". If I'm not mistaken, they were against it.

Mar 8, 2012 10:49 AM in response to AdnanBby marshmeli,oh man this is so lame... great I get the 4G icon on my phone (which means nothing) and I STILL can't turn off 3G (or 4G)... what a crappy update, Apple please fix this, the toggle should be turn off 3G on 3G phones and 4G on "4G" phones... did this release even pass a QA process?
I do like how i can delete from my photostream now though

Mar 8, 2012 10:59 AM in response to marshmeliby Dah•veed,Slow down and educate yourself guey, so you do not post other comments and embarrass yourself as you just did!
Allow me to edumucate you, homey. At this point you show us that you have an AT&T iPhone. No other punk a** iPhone would show fake 4G except the AT&T iPhone. True 4G is LTE and there are no iPhones with that technology on their comm chip.
The fact that most folks have the 3G switch and AT&T folks do not, means that it is now out of Apple's hands. It is an issue that you have with AT&T. AT&T is who is not allowing you folks to turn 3G on & off. Storm AT&T's Internet portals with your ire!!!!! We wid ju all da way, guey.
