I think this is a server overload issue because of the transition and NOT a permanent problem with Outlook.

Yesterday I was able to use Outlook 2011 when iCloud mail was having all sorts of problems. Today I get the same message as you.

I'm using the settings laid out in the KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864

Again, this all worked perfectly fine (if occasionally slow) for me yesterday. That's why my guess is that this really is just a problem of busy servers on these imap servers.

I must disagree with Csound. iCloud is intended to work as a standard IMAP email, though apple will not support you in troubleshooting it.

Yesterday there were problems with authentication on those servers, but today I am using Outlook 2011 Mac with iCloud and having no problems. I am using the standard settings listed in the apple KB, here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864

Again, there were overloaded server problems yesterday, but it's fine today both sending and receiving iCloud mail.

tsk tsk Samuel, how misleading can you get.

I said "Outlook 2011 for Mac is not compatible with iCloud" and it is not, but your suggestion is fine for users who don't need contacts or calendars, you know, people with no life to attend to or acquaintances to contact.

Hey, sorry. I'm not trying to mislead anyone - so no reason for the tone.

The OP was asking specifically about email with Outlook 2011. The discussion was originally about failure to get the iCloud email settings to work with Outlook 2011 as a Mac client.

I was answering only about that.

It's possible to use iCal and the Mac OS X address book for your calendars and contacts, and then to use Outlook 2011 for your mail client. This is a viable solution for people "with a life," as you put it, that also incoprorates Outlook 2011 as an IMAP client with iCloud mail.

So if the question is about getting icloud mail to work with outlook (and this was the question): it can be done.

As to the separate question -- not posed by the OP -- of whether Outlook 2011's address book and calendars will work with iCloud: I haven't even looked into this, but if you say it doesn't work I have no reason to doubt it.
