Upgraded (I think) to IOS 5 on my iPad 1. Now while in Safari I can't get 'back to top' of a webpage without having to scroll all the way back up ... used to be one touch. Have I lost that in the 'upgrade'?
Ok ... I've got it. The touch area is actually above the browser bar in black instead of within the gray header area within the browser (where it used to be). Thanks for your help :)
No - it still works. Try these steps and see if the function comes back. Try the third step first, quit Safari.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit Safari. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit Safari by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down the Safari app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close it. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Well, I've tried all 3 of your suggestions ... quitting Safari, restarting, and resetting and the function isn't there. I was really excited about the new capability for tabbed browsing but now not so much.
If anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them please!
Same issue here on iPad 1. No return to top.
I have touched every area at the top & it does nothing. Too high & I'm in the Google or web address boxes & the keyboard pops up. Too low & I'm on one of the new tabs & it switches to another page. All the area in between is just gray & does nothing.
All this scrolling seems soooooo 'backward'!
You can still go to the top of the page by touching at the top. The area to touch is smaller so you have to practice a bit.
I don't mean to sound obnoxious but even with only 1 tab open there is no area that when touched takes you 'back to top'. The function is not there.
Does it make a difference that this is an ipad 1 - not 2 (as mentioned in OP)?
Touching the very top of the page in Safari on iOS 5 works correctly for me on my iPad 1.
I guess I must need to do a reset or reinstall through itunes then ...
Maybe there is something going on with your iPad, but try touching the black bar right by where the time is displayed. If that doesn't take you to the top, then there is a problem.
If it was a snake it would have bitten me. Before you touched the gray area (didn't you) now it's the black.
