ipad2 ios5 mirroring missing/hiding place to define target resolution

When I mirror with cables

the display settings box gives me these choices for SONY TV.

That's how it knows to fill my tv screen with hulu.

the ipad2 with ios5 seems to only know the source resolution

and so that is what it streams with airplay

much to the dismay of many.

anyone find a way around this?

wait for ios6?

seems kind of lame otherwise.
