Mirroring won't work with ipad 2 and Apple TV 2.

I have updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5. I have updated my Apple TV 2 to the latest software. I am able to use AirPlay to stream music, pictures and videos to my Apple TV, and it shows up fine on my television screen.

However, when I double click the Home button on my iPad 2, swipe to the left so I can see the iPod controls and AirPlay button, I push the AirPlay button and select 'Apple TV' from the list, and then below that I turn on the 'mirroring' switch, my television screen goes black for about 30 seconds, and then returns to the Apple TV home screen. During this time, on my iPad screen, the top bar (where it shows the time and battery life etc) turns blue. I assume it does this to indicate that I am in Mirroring Mode. However, after the 30 seconds or so of my television screen being black, the blue bar on my iPad screen turns back to normal.

Any ideas?

I'm running my Apple TV through a Denon receiver/amp and then to my TV, but that shouldn't be the issue because like I said, I can get pictures and videos to work with airPlay - just can't get mirroring to work.

Thanks for the reply.

I definitely have the correct version of the ATV software. The first time I tried to mirror, I hadn't updated the ATV software, and there was no mirror switch to turn on. After updating, there is a mirror switch, but it doesn't work. And I have tried rebooting both devices and still no luck 😟

Could it have something to do with my TV? Maybe it needs a firmware update? However, I can get pictures and videos to stream to the TV using AirPlay..

I have the same exact issues...ATV2 at 4.4, iPad2 at iOS 5. Little blue bar shows up on iPad but then disappears after about 30 seconds. No mirroring at all

Other oddities after atv update to 4.4.... Remote from my iPad doesn't work anymore at all. While the app sees the atv, it can never connect to it. Remote works fine from my iPhone 4. Remote has been updated to lastest version on all devices.

ATV DOES see my library on my Mac mini via home sharing so all of that is functional.

Ok, now after several more tries, I got miroring to work...sort of. My ipad finally came up on my TV screen, however it is incredibly slow. anything I do on the iPad isn't shown on the screen for about 30 seconds. If I open an app, 30 seconds later it will show the app opening on the TV screen.

However, when i go into my pictures app, and turn on AirPlay, the picture is shown on the screen instantly, and when I swipe though photos, theychange on the TV screen instantly. So that part is working fine. It's still just the mirroring that is the problem.

Also, I tried plugging the Apple TV directly into my TV, rather than having it run through my Denon receiver/amp, and it didn't make any difference. Mirroring was still terribly slow.

I solved the problem! Hopefully this will work for you guys too.

First, on my iPad, I did a reboot by holding down the home button and the power button at the same time for 6 seconds. (hold down the home button first, and then hold down the power button) The screen will go black, and the Apple logo will appear.

Then I unplugged my Apple TV and plugged it back in.

Finally I unplugged my wirelesss router and plugged it back in.

Then I tried the mirroring, and this time it worked flawlessly. I'm not sure if it was only one of those steps or all three that fixed the problem, but I suggest trying it.

So Again:

1. Reboot iPad

2. Restart the apple TV

3. Restart your router

Mirroring won't work with ipad 2 and Apple TV 2.
