IOS5 and Phone Signal Issues

A problem... is there a reason why, since upgrading my iPhone 3GS to IOS5, that my 3G and WIFI signal seems to cut out constantly. When ever I try to use the internet (WIFI or 3G) the phone seems to go into a cycle of 'no signal' 'searching' 'full signal'.

Anyone else had this issue? Any ideas what might be the problem / solution?

Well, I tried to restore my iPhone 3GS (baseband 06.15.00) and the problem got worse.

As I said before, I could let my "current location" on and all my signals - Wi-Fi, 3G, EDGE and Bluetooth - were working properly. However, I couldn't use any app that asks for my location.

Now it got pretty bad. If I let "current location" on, the signals start to fade in and out. Solution: Turn it off.

I guess this can be a issue of compatibility between some baseband's and iOS 5.

Today my messaging was out of whack besides the signal problem.

My phone registered I had no signal. But I tried to send a sms message anyway.... after I rebooted my phone to get a signal. My phone beeped and I got a reply to a messsage I wrote but on my phone it indicated that my message wasnt sent. It had the red exclamation beside it.

Later in the day with my phone having full signal I sent a few sms. It said it sent. An hour later I tried to make a call, but it refused to connect. It actually hanged so I was forced to reboot. When it rebooted the sms I had sent earlier that said were sent were now registering the red exclamation point saying it was never sent!!!

Arrggh....I have been in Apple **** lately. After months of Lion's BSOD (black screen of death) on my macbook pro now there is this os5 problem. They should slow down releasing upgrades till all the glitches are resolved. It took 2-3 months for them to fix the BSOD. And to say they finally acknowledged the BSOD problem 2 months after the problem first started occuring.

ok. this is my first (hopefully last) post on these forums... all i want to know is: who do i call @ apple that WILL NOT charge me $29, to make a complaint.

i just want this issue to be acknowledged and given an ETA for a fix.

also, what is the process to 'complain' online? i have read at least 50 posts on here from people saying, "keep flooding apple and they will have to acknowledge this..." ok i want to do that, i will literally send an email every 5 minutes - just tell me where to send it.

thank you in advance - GT

The same happens here (in Portugal) with my iPhone 4 since I upgrade toiOS 5... and the update for iOS 5.0.1 did not solve the problem...

After it loses the signal from the carrier, it is looking for the carrier signal indefinitely...

People call me, they hear the ringing tone, but I get no sign, no SMS, nothing...

To solve the problem I have to restart the phone...

Begins to be too frustrating...

There is no solution???

Sincerely,

Paulo

Made an appointment at the Genius Bar today and this is the story I was given. First I would like to say that the guy at the Apple store was very nice and seeking to resolve the issue. According to the Genius, the problem with my phone and my wife's phone is that we both upgraded from our 3GS iPhone's to our current iPhones. He claimed that the restore process brings with is firmeware from the old phone's hardware onto the new phone's hardware. This firmeware wasn't meant to be on the new hardware so it causes application crashes and other nefarious issues like signal loop search. So he switched out my wife's new 4S for another 4S, since hers was under warranty, and instructed us to not use a restore process but rather set it up as a new iphone. For me, he wiped it back to bare OS and instructed me to also set it up as a new install rather than using a restore. I'm going through that process now and will report back if I continue to have issues.

Lesson learned here, when you take this approach, make sure you have photo's, notes and other things that may not be synched directly via iTunes backed up to a location you can bring forward after the new install setup.

We have 2 iphone 4 in our family and my husband's started w/ the problem after ios5 upgrade a couple weeks ago. Yes, he put off the upgrade b/c plugging in his own phone to back it up falls on me.

However, we tried reset, no wifi and all remedies only to have it return again yesterday. After a backup and reset this morning, it still returned. He headed to the Apple retail store and the only answer was to fork over another $200 for a new phone. VERY disappointing. I have been an Apple fan and Mac user since 1986, converted hundreds of friends and families to the tune of even setting up their machines for them. It is really very unfortunate that apple is not recognizing this problem and making it right by fixing the os or replacing phones for free.

A fix that worked for me! Read on.

My Iphone 4 had this problem about a month ago (full strength, searching, no signal, full strength every 30 seconds or so) on AT&T in the US. The searching seemed to crush battery life. I took the phone to Genius bar and they replaced the phone - pretty much no questions asked. They then said, if I still had the problem to go to AT&T and have them swap the sim. They also told me when I got home to set it up as a new iphone (it was still 4.x), upgrade to ios5, then restore my backup - which I did. All was fine, seemed the problem was sorted. And it was fine - for about 2 weeks.

Two weeks ago it started again on the brand new phone. Tried all sorts of resets and restores,to no avail. Finally I set it up as a "new iphone" again. And the problem went away. I manually copied all my files, apps, media, etc (good opportunity to clean up I reckoned). And it was fine.

Yesterday it started again. Yes, turning off cellular data did make it stop cycling, but was simply not an option for my business usage. A trip to the AT&T store today swapped the sim - in fact 2 sims - and no fix. Sitting in AT&T it was cycling right there in front of them. AT&T assured me they had no other types/brands of sim (64/128, etc) and that even though Apple had already swapped the hardware, it must still be an Apple hardware problem.

Out of desperation, without time to head to the Genius bar, and not being near a PC to connect to restore completely, I tried the "Reset network settings". No Luck. Then I noticed "Reset ALL settings". I figured what the ****, I'll reenter my email info, etc so I chose it. It asked me if I wanted to set it up as a new iphone (I said yes) -rebooted itself, asked for a pin again, went through the intro "welcome to iPhone" stuff after reboot. When asked I left location services off just to simplify things - and it worked!! Better still, it had all my settings still intact which I didn't expect (it said it would leave media).

So... it's been fine for several hours... battery seems ok too. If you're having this problem, try

- swapping sim if possible

- resetting all settings

- leave location services off during initial dialogs.

Worked for me.. for the time being.

Apple- this problem really exists!!!!
