Q: I can't buy extra storage space for my iCloud account..

Hi All.

I use iTunes 10.5 and ios 5. My iCloud space is mostly full. I have been trying to purchase the 10GB extra space since yesterday but it keeps on giving me an error message (An unknown error has occurred).

I tried over my iPhone, iPad, and Windows 7 iCloud Control Panel. Failed each time, several times.

Please assist.

Regards,

Jaber

Add me to the list too. But my message says that my email address is not valid. My email address has been verified and I signed in with it. Weird.

i have the same problem.. i use Apple ID credits instead of a credit card, and am wondering if that is the issue (should not be). are you using credit card or gift cards?

i can still do other purchases on Itunes, except for the storage space - so my account is valid and working.

I am also on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 and on IOS 5 on my ipad and iphone, so Apple has no excuses to send me an "unknown error" messages...

I guess the problem is getting a little bit more clear to me.

My guess is that we all use iTunes giftcards (as some of you already said)

and no credit card linked to our accounts.

So this could be the problem that we all are getting the unkown error issue.

But then again, as we all can read in the terms and conditions of iCloud, it says that a valid credit card is needed for purchasing extra storage for iCloud, "AND" as well is itunes store credit a legit way of purchasing extra storage for iCloud.

So my guess is, they would accept iTunes store credit, but only when you would have a credit card linked into your account.

I hope this isn't true and it is just another problem, but it all points in this direction.

That would be a big fail.

You are right. We all use prepaid cards.

Apple restricts the use of prepaid balances for no clear reasons.

In the past it denied us the right to "gift" apps and had the feature available exclusively for users with credit cards. And now it denies us the right to upgrade the iCloud Storage.

Does Apple understand that the Prepaid Balance is Money too?

Sorry but I have the exact same problem and yet I am using a credit card (the one attached to my Apple ID, with which I have no problem to buy music or apps from iTunes)... Can someone tell if there is a solution or at least if someone else has the same problem that I have (i.e. impossibility to increase icloud storage although not using prepaid cards ???)

    thanks!

YES I am having the same problem using a credit card. In fact I have tried two of my credit cards and none of them worked on my iPhone 4, iPad 2, and MacBook Pro when trying to upgrade storage. It usually says "your email addres has changed or is invalid" and mixed in it sometimes it says "the iTunes store is unable to process purchases at this time/credit card processing is temporarily unavailable" but this is a crock because I've purchased plenty of apps on both mobile devices, a few songs on each, and rented movies all on my credit card hooked up to my Apple ID/iTunes account. I don't understand why it works on everything but iCloud storage upgrades at a time when it seems most profitable. I hope they solve this issue quick, I can barely back up my iPhone, let alone iPad, computer files, media, and mail. APPLE FIX THIS QUICK!!
