Q: I can't buy extra storage space for my iCloud account..

Hi All.

I use iTunes 10.5 and ios 5. My iCloud space is mostly full. I have been trying to purchase the 10GB extra space since yesterday but it keeps on giving me an error message (An unknown error has occurred).

I tried over my iPhone, iPad, and Windows 7 iCloud Control Panel. Failed each time, several times.

Please assist.

Regards,

Jaber

Just in case it helps others: I managed to increase my storage on icloud after I realized a peculiar thing... On my itunes account the initial of my middle name wasn't shown, while it is on my credit card. So I update my information on itunes and that sloved the problem (I was at last able to buy more storage for icloud). The peculiar thing is that I have had this disconnect in my name between itunes and my credit card for years, and it never prevented me from buying music and apps .... Anyways, hope it will help others!

I cannot purchase additional storage in iCloud using my iTunes Account even though I have $30 US Dollars Available in my iTunes Account as a result of having used a $50 Gift Card.

The interface does not work and results in an "unknown error" message. Please fix this. iCloud looks like a good service and I want to use it. But seriously, come on man.

guys i have also the same problem regarding i cloud storage upgrading

and just the same i could not get any answer from apple at the moment.

it would seem that they are still in the process of fixing thing with the iCloud itself?

UPDATE: I followed the suggestion from GNIOU and checked out my credit card information on iTunes. Everything was correct but I decided to erase it all and re enter everything. IT WORKED. I just upgraded to an extra 20GB and now I can backup both my devices. Apple was no help with this issue and I'm sure they have their hands full so I was happy that this trick worked. Everyone should try it because you know if you leave it  up to apple it will be next year before its solved

Its not if you use Credir Card or Credit, its the Apple ID used for the cloud and the information no recorded correctly.

I had the same issue, went to the PC system tray applet (iCloud) and went to buy storage. It asked me to fill in address and credit card information. Everytime it error with "Cant perform that fucntion"

I found to fix the issue goto (My Apple ID):

    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/71/wo/9UWOZj6zVrfmQQC O5j0qnM/12.0.29.145.1.0.8

and enter your address details, phone number, etc using this page and save.

Then repeat the process from the PC system try applet and the address information is their and all I had to do was add credit card information and it WORKED !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all,

I have the final answer to the problem.

I contacted apple support, and they said to me what i already thought, that you can't buy extra storage for iCloud if you don't have a valid payment method linked to your account. As in a valid credit card registred on the same name and address as your iTunes account.

Hope this info helps you all!

Thanks Soldier. Worked for me, as soon as I entered credit/debit card details I was allowed to buy more storage.

Note: iTunes Store credit or gift cards cannot be used as a form of payment to upgrade your iCloud storage (payment methods accepted include credit and debit cards).

I'm using a regular credit card, the same one I use with iTunes store and I get a message that an error has occurred.  So I guess you just can't buy additional iCloud storage.  I know I've given up trying.

Just found the answer! Been trying for weeks to buy iCloud storeage for my wife with the same error message.  We have been trying to purchase with gift card $$ on the account.  Once I put my credit card info in and tried it again....it was smooth as could be.  I guess you can't buy the storeage with gift card.

I am using a valid credit card, the same card used to purchase apps, movies, books and music without any problems, and i am unable to upgrade/purchase more space on icloud. i repeatedly get an error message saying my account has been disabled. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. i CLOUD SHOULD BE RENAMED i NIGHTMARE!

Furthermore, in contacting support, the only course of action is via email. Come on now!!!! Now that Apple products are in our lives 24/7/365, it seems they are divorcing themselves from the responsibility such intrusion demands.

I fixed the problem by opening the icloud preferences on my mac and then going to manage storage and from there I could buy no problem.  Been failing for days on iOS6, but this worked first try.

I bought extra space on icloud, but I am still getting the message on my brand-new ipad that my storeage is almost full so I cannot add new apps.

Same problem. Could not get my iMac to upgrade iCloud storage, no matter what. Made sure all my iTunes details and Apple ID details were all correct. Didn't make a difference. So I used my iPad instead to upgrade iCloud storage. Worked first time, no problems.
