There is no SIM card installed after IOS update on 3GS

Hey!

I just upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5. All went well, then at the end, it asks me a few set ups (like language, Location, and WiFi settings).

After that, it attempts to activate, and fails, giving me the following error in iTunes: "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate."

Problem is, there IS a SIM card in the phone, I tried taking it out, and putting it back in, tried with another SIM, tried the SIM in another phone, worked fine, just not the iPhone!

I would appreciate any help!

Also, the phone was Jailbroken before, and the SIM worked fine. Just not now, when it tries to activate.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GO BACK TO THE BEST PREVIOUS UPDATE OF IOS4. THAT"S ALL I EXPECT NOW!😢

Hello vinod1986,

Exactly the same problem with my iPhone 3GS 16GB on Canada's Telus network. I followed all the prompts properly and at the end of the long process of upgrading, my 3GS is now basically a piece of paperweight. Even Emergency calls are not going through. The SIM card just is not being detected. I also tried doing a RESET by pressing the Sleep/Power button and the Main button for 10 seconds, and that did not do anything. Basically, the phone is asking me for language and country of residence, etc. like it just came off a factory assembly line!

Are you listening Apple Tech Support? It is a business phone and I am losing business because of this stupid glitch that Apple should have known about.

Very disappointed.

@wendy191,

Have you jailbroken your phone before?
If you have, I don't see any way you could go back to IOS4 (4.3.3 or 4.3.5) (However, experts might be able to help you)

When you jailbreak you iPhone you update your baseband to iPad's Baseband i.e. 6.50 (something like that) & once that happens there's no going back (at least a legitimate way) unless you do what this guy says.

Watch this video on youtube. Listen to what he says & you can surely get through the activation.
