iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iPhone. An unknown error occurred (1630).

You should be able to check for updates after putting the iPhone in to Airplane Mode.

Please , i request apple developer commite to solve this "An unknown error occurred (1630)" problem as early as you can, beacuse we cannot update any more iphone in our computer.

Please do it early and give us a permanent solution as like perviouse Itunes.

Set iPhone in Flight mode and then Search for updates in iTunes. I saw it somewhere else in here and it works.

Or you just search for updates on your iPhone wireless, it works too. :-)

I just bought my iPhone 4S today and inserted my SIM card in it (which was from a different provider than the one that sells iPhone 4S at the moment in Belgium). I also got this same error but when I tried to check for an update after setting the iPhone in flight mode, I still received the same error. Is there anything else I can do??

Did you try the to check for updates on the iPhone...not in flight mode? Go to Settings, General, Updates.....mine is in Norwegian, but I think it is correct path in english :-)

Just update your iTunes to 10.5.2 and the issue is no more showig up.. 🙂

tengo un iphone 3 g y me ocurre lo mismo. No puedo acceder a configurar mi iphone porque me dice que está desconectado y que debo conectarme a itunes. El problema es que en itunes me dice que debo tener un código para tener acceso a itunes y estoy desesperado.

I know this was ages ago, but just in case anyone is having this problem going forward… If you are using a non-Apple official USB cord to connect to your computer, this may be the problem. I was having this issue and when I switched to an Apple cord, I was able to connect, have the computer recognize the iPhone and back it up without any problems. I hope this helps someone!
