Duplicate events/holidays in iCal using iCloud

Hi,

Today I installed LION on my iMac, and yesterday I updated my iPhone4 w/iOS5; both now have iCloud.

My question, has to do with my iCal. I now have duplicate events through my iCal, both appts. and such as well as holidays. I manually deleted many of the most recent and futures personal events, but holidays are another issue. In many cases I have the same holiday listed 4 times. I think it has something to do with iCloud, but also the different calenders, for example home, home/business, holiday etc.

Any suggestions how to correct would be appreciated?

Thanks 🙂

I'm having pretty much the same problem. Upgraded to iOS5 a few days ago and all went smoothly. Just today the sync (over cable using iSync as I get an error msg when trying to set up iCloud) resulted in all iCal events on iPhone 4 being duplicated, but still fine in iCal on Mac. Hrumph!

I've looked at a few solutions online, but most seem to involve MobileMe which I don't have.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help.

Thanks too 🙂

Alright, I seem to have a solution...at least I hope so...

On my iPod Touch I went into "Settings" and then into "iCloud"

In there I turned the "Calendars" slider to the "OFF" position. A dialog box pops up that says "Turning Off Calendars..."

When asked "What would you like to do with the previously synched iCloud calendars on your iPod Touch?" I selected "Delete from My iPod."

I clicked the Home button to leave the settings page and I waited a minute. Also make sure the Calendar app isn't running.

Then I went back into "Settings" and "iCloud" and turned the "Calendars" slider back to the "ON" position. Another dialog box pops up that says "Turning On Calendars..."

I then went back to my Calendar application and BINGO, no more duplicate events, birthdays, or holidays!

I imagine this should work similarily on an iPhone or iPad.

Hope that works for you! 🙂

Cheers!

Here's what I've just found, it's worked for me. 🙂

In iCal on iPhone, I went to Calendars and both sets (From my Mac and iCloud) were checked so I unchecked one set and that took out my duplicates. Ta daa. 🙂

I'm not completely sure that I don't have some events on one set and some on another, so I'm checking, checking, checking at the moment just to be sure.

Hope this might help someone.

The main problem is that your iDevice is syncing to iCal through iCloud as well as the reular iTunes sync at the same time.

To solve this dilemma, simply uncheck the sync iCal events in the info tab when you plug your device into iTunes. It may ask what to do with the data, simply delete it if you are using iCloud.

Now your iDevice will only be synced with iCal through iCloud.

Success

Hi All,

I was just reading a lot of the responses, and most of them are what I was guided through doing, when calling apple support. It was a long process, because I not only had doubles, but triples, quadruples and more; lets just say I was on the phone with them for awhile.

In the end, they did have me change settings in iTunes (info tab), and yes also I had to shut off conflicting calenders, to only have the iCloud calenders. I had to manually delete the majority of the duplicates, using my phone.

Unfortunately, I am not confident enough to go step by step with instructions for you, but these are the basics, and from what I see for the most part have been suggested by others above.

Thanks everyone for the help. 🙂

@sarahsunshine

I am guessing that you do not have icloud correctly set up either on your iDevice or your Mac.

Go into system preferences on your mac and confirm that under the icloud tab, you are logged into your account, as well as have the sync ical events ticked off.

Do the same on the phone- go into settings, icloud, and make sure the account is logged in, as well as the calenders slider turned to on.

also double check that you have the same account logged in for both. I know it sounds silly, but you never know 😉

Hopefully that solves your problem

I am a super Newbie to the Mac world (currently converting to an all mac environment at the house) but have used the iphone since it came out... i was getting the same dupes on my macbook but not my iphone, i turned off all my calendars except the "home" one and bang all good to go... not sure that is feasible for most as u prob know more about this than i, but it seems to have worked...

I am using a new iPhone 4S, and had this problem. Your suggestion fixed it. Thank you.
