Did somebody notice a major power drain issue after iOS5 upgrade on iPhone4? Last night at midnight, it was ~90% charged. In the morning, it was 37% charged. By noon, it was dead. I didn't make even 1 call during this time. Connected to Wi-Fi at home and strong 3G signal. Bluetooth is off, location services are off, all that stuff. The same phone's battery would last for 40 hours with my normal usage with IOS 4.3.5. Anybody knows if any specific feature of iOS5 is causing this battery drain?

Upgraded my 3GS to IOS5 on Wed and now it runs out of battery after about 6 hours with no use, 4 hours or less with occassional email use.  Had to recharge it 3 times yesterday, and after 4 hours today.  That doesn't work for me since I'm on the road a lot.  Not only that, PDF attachments, even small ones, take a while to load and are then blurry for a long time while it slowly sharpens the focus and sometimes it doesn't ever get sharp.  Multi-page PDFs are now **** to try to read.   This is with 5 bars of 3G coverage. Never had these issues until this upgrade.

I have the same problem. In 4 hours the battery of my iPhone 4 has drained after having IOS 5 upgrade yesterday.

I tried nearly everything including deleting the mail accounts, switching off the iCloud and notifications but it didn't work. Resetting the network settings and restoring the iPhone have already been done by me. Any suggestion?

Same here with my iP4.  Noticed it was real hot and the battery drained quickly.  I turned off locations, notifications and anything else like that and it started cooling off but at that that point it was down to 20% charge.  Started out with a full charge and used the phone sporadically.  I'm only talking only a span of about 4 or 5 hours.

I was having the same issue with my iphone 3GS. I asked my friend (he had the ios 5 beta), and he told me to unlink all of my email accounts, and then re-link them. It worked! Try it, let me know if it works for you as well. Spread the word!

Updated to IOS 5 yesterday.  Since then a charge will last about 4 hours & the phone is very hot.  Tried a hard restart and a full restore.  Turned off the ping.  And still no improvements.  Is this Apple's way to get us to buy a new phone?  Did they intentionally sabatoge our phones?  Makes me wonder.  Any other suggestions?

Here we go. The solution is below. Hope it will work for you too!

1- Delete your email account(s) in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Your Account > Delete Account

2- Reset Network Settings in Settings > Reset > Reset Network Settings

3- Reboot your phone by holding the sleep/wake (top) button then sliding to off.

4- Re-add the email account Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account…

    5- Turn push back on

I had the same problem.  After updating my iPhone 3gs, the battery was quickly drained.  Hope it is a one time thing . . . .

    Exactly the same issue o both a 4 and a 4S.

Battery drains almost in front of your eyes and only last about 6 hours on standbye.

Must be something to do with IOS5 as I noticed some comments suggesting Siri as the culprit, but obviously Siri is not on iPhone 4

    Any answers back from Apple?

Notifications...  Try turn off any widgets like Yahoo Stock and Weather.

I have been having the same problem on my iPhone 4 I've switched nearly everything of and even if I'm not using it it drains at a ridiculous rate. If apple don't sort this out I will have to find a way to go back to the older iOS

This does work temporarily but doesn't last for long
