Q: iPhone 4S loses signal

TL;DR: iPhone loses signal completely with no apparent reason, rebooting helps, but 4 times in 8h is a bit too often.

Hey there,

I was very excited when I got the new iPhone 4S today. Unfortunately after 30min it didn't get any signal anymore. I live in a big city and have normally a very high signal strength. I let the iPhone search for the network provider a few times, but it didn't find anything (the iPad2 lying next to it had full signal strength).

Rebooting helped, but after another hour or so (and disrupting a call twice) it couldn't find any signal again. So I rebooted and there it was again. So all in all I had to reboot the phone about 4 times in 8 hours.

I couldn't find any similar problems in the forum so is this a unique problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? can I do anything against that?

Here are some additional infos:

Location: Frankfurt, Germany,

Network provider: T-Mobile

After months of insisting I'm just giving up my iphone 4s and returning to the Blackberry. It is unacceptable that a cell phone has reception problems without a resolution for so long. I think that after putting so many resources on the iphone 4s, such as the Siri, Apple forgot the true purpose of a cell phone. iPhone 4s - 16G - unlocked

Have you try to upgrade the firmware# 9A406?

I had similar problem 2 months ago and the 9A406 solved  "No service " issue on my phone.

There is NO FIX to this problem. Go to a service and change it for a new one. Good luck.

same issue here: constantly loosing signal, every day at least dozen times, only difference is that my phone finds signal for itself within few seconds. and i've noticed second thing mentioned here: phone having full bar, and when i take it into my hands signal dropes to one bar. third: sometimes, when i am in some aplication the phone closes app for no aparent reason and it just goes to desktop (i thing this is not related to losing signal). fouth issue: pure battery life. i've found literally every advice on internet about extending battery life, and still it's very dissapointing. if i don't touch the device it's <relativelly> ok, but when i start working anything on device i can literally see battery bar dropping..

    @ pchinh:

yes, i've upgraded my phone few days ago to firmware #9A416 and it was good for a day. just after 24 hours phone went back to previous state, only difference is that now i have one signal ''line'' more than before upgrade (now my signal is a little bit stronger, even on wi fi).. but i have absolutely same problems sa before. phone is loosing signal whole day (my girlfiend's dummy phone on same network- full bar), the screen is switching ON for no visible reason (my phone just lying on the table)..  usually i can't establish a normal phone call because for the first time on the other side line is busy, on second try i have no sound in speaker- must end and dial for the third time, and then i can normally speak to person.. and cherry on the top: it have a really really pure baterry life, especially considerring i've turned off absolutely everything to preserve battery. basically, i'm using my 600 $ iphone like old nokia 3300 and my baterry stll can't live up for two days..

I'm thinking of returning my iPhone 4S...

I'm having the exact same problem and also having TERRIBLE battery issues. Did Apple rush the phones release or something?

How can I download this firmware from Apple directly besides downloading it from some other website? Does that mean you have to jailbreak or void warranties or anything?

And if it was released by Apple, how did they release it? Is it on Apples website or something?

    Hi!!

I'm having signal reception issues as well, I used to have an iPhone 4 and after I purchased the 4S I gave my old 4 to my girlfriend, and when we are together only my 4S has signal reception problems, it goes to NO SERVICE suddenly and sometimes signal comes back, others I just have to turn it off and on, just setting airplane mode on doesn't work, actually sometimes it makes it worst, for example, usually at nights I set airplane mode on and then in the morning when I turn it off, my iphone 4S doesn't get reception at all and goes NO SERVICE when my girlfriends 4 is full with signal. And also when SEARCHING for signal, my iphone 4S takes longer than my girlfriends iphone 4.

    Apple please help!!!

Here are a lot of steps you can use to try and solve your signal problem. Hopefully in the upcoming iOS 5.1 and soon to be announced iOS 6, this problem will be resolved.
