Slight Yellow Tint (iPhone 4S)

Has anyone noticed a yellow tint on their iPhone 4S? My wife and I both had our iPhones delivered today and both seem to have a tint compared to our previous iPhone 4. Is this the glue that has to dry? Any ideas?

Try taking a picture of the sky with your iPhone 4, then your iPhone 4S on a sunny day look at the whites, you will se a pink hue I bet. When I first got my iPhone 4S I noticed the difference, but after a week its good, if I hold it up next to my 2011 iMac the colour profile seems almost identical, colours on the iPhone 4S are more true to life, the 'yellow' has calmed down, I think that's my eyes getting used to it and maybe a bonding agent druing out who knows, but right now my whites are white (maybe slightly cream like my iMac) no odd hues to them, and pictures look great. The iPhone 4 I think had the colour profile way into the blue spectrum, and I bet that's what most of you are seeing and freaking out about. Try comparing your iPhone 4S with another, any other, its good I bet, and its not really yellow either, its just not blue...

When I bought 2 iPhone 4S Black, one of them had a yellow screen. Yesterday, I went to the Apple store and after opening and returning 3 iPhones, the 4th one was better. It does not have as cool a screen as that of my iPhone 4, but it is not very yellow.

So I guess that majority of the iPhone 4S are goung to have warmer yellow screens. Apple should have asked both their screen manufacturers to have the same color temperature so that we do not have such issues.

For those of you hoping that a firmware update would resolve this, please note that a firmware (iOS) update will not change the screen color temperature.

Warmer yellow screens do not mean that they are defective. However for the record, I prefer cooler blue screens.

I purchased my first phone on July 3rd, 2011. First phone was replaced 35 days later (after lots of additional problems one of them including yellow pictures).

Second phone, yellow pictures still rule on my phone. Sigh. Taking a workshop class on Wednesday and plan to bring it up. Lots of problems with iPhone 4. So much for thinking I was getting a better phone. I wish I'd never gotten an iPhone for a number of reasons one reason being...What good are yellow pictures?

Went to apple store yesterday and without question the genius bar gave me new phone. Happy to say I got one that was much better than the one returned. It's not as bluish as my previous 4 but it's just right. No more tint to it. A little tip for those who get replacement. Try to get one that the serial number is way different than the one you own. My friend and I had similar beginning digits with the same tint. Apple store units with similar serial numbers had the tint. good luck.

Just another update. Went to the Apple Store in Norfolk, Virginia this past Saturday (10/22/11). The Genius Bar representative was very helpful regarding my issue and agreed that it was a different screen tint than their iPhone 4S (black). We looked at another iPhone 4S (white), but it also had the yellow tint. I looked at the serial number and sure enough is was a C39G*****TDR. Upon my request, the representative checked in the back to see if there were any iPhone 4S's (white) not starting or ending with those serial numbers. Unfortunatelly, they all has this serial range. We both agreed that the rest would probably show this tint unless they were different serial numbers. Looks like I will be checking back in a few weeks to see if they have different new ones in with different serial numbers.

If you are not experiancing this tint issue, can you supply some of your serial number, like above?

@ pardthemonster,

I have a White iphone 4S, 32 GB model, and I have no yellow tint whatsoever. I have an iphone 4 so I compared my iphone 4S to my iphone 4. Sure enough, my iphone 4 (black model) had a yellow tint. Before I had the iphone 4S, I did not notice I had the yellow tint for that long, but after getting the 4S, I definitely noticed my iphone 4 had the yellow tint. Anyways after comparing them side by side. My iphone 4S has a cooler Blue hue my screen (which I assume this is what everybody expects to have on their iphone to be considered as normal?) Anyways my serial number starts with DNP#####TDC. (Actually the # is all Letters, there is no number in my serial number)

Also my sister has a White iphone 4S as well but hers starts with C39 as well, however, she does not have yellow tint as well and has the cooler blue hue to hers as well.

are you guys able to notice even more of yellow tint when you tilt the phone to the right? ( so that the left side is above the right side) my serial is also C39G*****TDR. i've had a 4S white before i've returned it to cancel my contract with my carrier and didnt really notice any yellow tints but this new 4S that i've bought yesterday at the apple store has noticeable yellow tint and its really bothering me. Another trip to the apple store i guess
