Dec 15, 2011 7:39 PM in response to deggieby aneagle,My dream comes true: the 3G button is back, I'm still downloading, not restoring to my 4s yet but I have a chance to look into the package from a wellknown source (I don't want to argue on the "Terms of service for..." here) and I see the springboard is for 4s and Network Settings has 3G enable as an option.

Dec 15, 2011 9:08 PM in response to aneagleby transmogrification,Unfortunately, no 3G/2G toggle with this minor update. I just finished, checked with network settings. No toggle. We are back at square one.

Dec 15, 2011 9:36 PM in response to transmogrificationby aneagle,Do you have 038-3763-001.dmg in the package? SpringBoard has N94AP.plist for 4s and Preferences.app has Network.plist showing same keys related to enable/disable 3G as in iPhone 4.

Dec 15, 2011 10:19 PM in response to aneagleby transmogrification,I have "5.0.1(9A406)" I am not going any further than that. I will wait until an officially supported toggle is announced by Apple. It is late here.

Dec 16, 2011 3:01 AM in response to ZSquaredby spiritwave2000,You can't turn off 3G. The reason is probably because sometimes Siri uses your 3G when you ask the weather or something. Plus, as of I know, it won't disable on the iPhone 4 either, so probably Apple took out EDGE on iOS 5 because it is slow.

Dec 16, 2011 3:13 AM in response to spiritwave2000by N19h7m4r3,It can still connect to EDGE.
Taking it out is silly at best, as the rest of the world does not have amazing 3G.
Ireland might be small and they claim like 99% coverage, but **** there are plenty of deadspots and most of the coverage is GPRS and EDGE, not even 3G.
Our 3G networks are slow.

Dec 16, 2011 7:46 AM in response to aneagleby transmogrification,I had no problem restoring my phone. I am not going to go digging around looking for toggle files if they are not officially supported by Apple yet.

Dec 16, 2011 7:51 AM in response to N19h7m4r3by HolmanGT,I don't know about Ireland and it's 3G but here in the U.S. they do the same thing with 4G. They advertise and sell 4G phones like they were Rocket Sleds and they might be... What they don't tell you is for att they only have coverage in approx. 9 major cities in the U.S. and Saint George, UT is not one of them nor the remaining gazillion cities in the states.
OK back to the topic - Your comment about "Siri" most likely the reason for no 3G switch is probably the truth of the matter but the strange thing is they did put a switch to turn "Siri" off. So not to be overly analytic if you turn Siri off why not 3G. I don't have a 3G coverage issue where I live but and it is a big but, on my -4- I usually left 3G turned off to give myself just a little more battery. If I was in a store and wanted to scan or look something up on the web I would turn 3G back on while I needed it. "Freedom of joice" is a good thing for whatever reason.

Dec 16, 2011 8:00 AM in response to HolmanGTby transmogrification,Utah has plenty of "4G". Just google it. Verizon and Sprint both have it.

Dec 16, 2011 8:08 AM in response to aneagleby HolmanGT,aneagle,
So... without going into details for "Site Considerations" are you saying you have your 3G switch back and active again?
If you do, no matter how and why I am pleased to know that the function is still in the code. For me that may indicate that Apple has not completely rejected the idea of returning it for us mere mortals -

Dec 16, 2011 8:19 AM in response to HolmanGTby transmogrification,Well, it could be that the toggle is still included in the new 5.0.1 .ipsw file because of the GSM iPhone4 and 3GS and not the iPhone 4S at all. I did the update and have no toggle.
-
Dec 16, 2011 9:44 AM in response to aneagleby RossPhoto,@aneagle - you have 3G toggle back on 4S?
I take it you have to fiddle under the hood in the ipsw to enable the toggle?

Dec 16, 2011 3:19 PM in response to HolmanGTby aneagle,The main dmg is 038-3763-001, it's wide open but you can shortcut by Google for 038-3763-001dmg-decrypted and you can get under the hood. My iTunes just completed downloading, I verified the main dmg, it's the FS dmg and Network.plist in Preferences is the same for iPhone 4 with some new keys for siri. People from other places confirm that the 3G button is not shown after restoring with 9A406 so I'm giong to restore 9A406 and I don't expect to see the 3G button but the way is open now to see why part of Network.plist is not displayed on the screen.
