You definitely must have different names on the Sites. If you use one machine, it automatically calls them Site and Site 2. To work from two machines, you should transfer the file

Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain

between them. That way you will always have everything together.

A trick to make this easier is here:

Unfortunately there is no way to merge the two Domain files you are now using. Whether making sure the site names are different will let you publish these both the way you want I don't know for sure.

Ok, I think I understand mostly what is said. But if we can make this clear.

I created a site at work with 1 computer. I then went home and created a Totally different site but I didn't change the name so it was called site and replaced the site I created at work. Then I changed the name of the 2nd site I created at home and republished. So now I have 2 addresses with the same page that I created at home on it.

Now I'm at work and want to republish that webpage. I want 2 seperate websites. So that if someone goes to my work website they don't have access to my home website and visa~versa. I have my website at home password protected and I would like the website at home not password protected. Is this all possible....I think what your all telling me is that right now while I am at work I can hit the publish button with the original name still site (since my other site name is changed) and it will publish my original work website again, correct? And there will be no links or anyway for someone to access my home website or work website from each other, correct?

Thanks for your help!!!

-if anybody saw my earlier post about wanting to edit my work website from home thats not what I am trying to do right now, but I do understand that now thanks!!!-

I think that's correct, but have never tested it. It would be useful to know if it works. In particular what happens after you have published both sites and you hit the url

http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb

Which site do you wind up at?

Has anyone tried this for sure. I have links out to my page at home now and I don't want the people to go to my work website.

(if anybody thinks this is wierd, I actually did my personal webpage at work and a seperate personal site at home. I'm only using the home and work terms so people understand my locations and which site is which)

I never ended up just trying this, I was not possitive if it would let the people I sent links too view the wrong site. Has anyone tried this yet? If I bring home the file and keep both sites on one computer can I password protect both sites seperatly? What are my options to have 2 seperate sites? Do I need to purchase another .mac account to do this? Would that work? What about the family .mac thing? Somehow I would like to put both folders/sites on the same computer today and find some way to have them both up at the same time, and not have people access both sites unless I want them too. Thanks for the continued support!

There is no reason you can't test your set up before sending the urls to people. I suggest you do so. If you can access the wrong site with your browser, than so can an outsider. If you don't like what is there, just open your iDisk and delete the appropriate folder and try something else via republishing. I don't see how anyone else can do this stuff for you. You can password protect any site via the Inspector.

Do you really have to use two machines? If not, you can easily create two independent sites from one machine. One or both can be password protected. The top one on the list within iWeb is reached via the general url:

http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb

The second one on the list would require a longer url with the actual site name. In either case you can require a password if you want.

Thanks alot Tom for all your patence. I would test the machine befor I sent the url to others, however others already have the url which is why I was afraid to change stuff. I am at work now and going to just bring this site home with me to have both sites on 1 computer. Do I save the Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain file and put it on my computer at home that has the current published site and this should replace that one? Will that open my project on that computer, so I don't have to redo stuf? Instead of saving this file to a disk can I save it on my idisk and open it at home? If you remember I created and publish a site at work....then I went home and created and published a site at home, which replaced my original published site (that I created at work). Now I'm at work going to save whatever file to bring it home and put both on the same computer..... Do I have to have (bring home) all the pictures etc, that I used for the website I created at work or are those files all on my idisk? I see them on my idisk (under the new site name) but I'm not sure if I need the files on my computer or not? I'm sure I don't, but I better ask befor I leave here and have to drive all the way back.

I promise to be out of your hair as soon as I complete this task. Thanks!!!
