Since iOS5 audiobooks only play a chapter at a time.

Any one else have this problem?

I just installed iOS 5 today and now ALL my Audible audiobooks will not play – I can't even get the icons of the books to respond in any way – just dead images. There are several controls that seem to have been eliminated also. My iPad was working perfectly in iOS 4.3.3 – I hope I can restore the previous iOS. Releasing a Beta was a stupid idea.

Yep, 100% agree. There is major loss of functionality with the "Music" app for iPad. My list is as follows:

1) The layout of the buttons is awful, why place all the important controls in the extreme corners of the window, leaving the centre of the display as wasted empty space. I thought it was bad before, but I think its even worse with this iteration. It’s incredibly un-ergonomic.

2) The Playlists are a complete disaster. Now largely driven by visual pictures of ‘collected album covers’ (this in itself just doesn't make any sense...) – whilst the important information such as "playlist name" is represented in tiny 6 font, laid out in a grid pattern - its simply un-navigable.

3) Shuffle and repeats switches used to be highlighted blue when active, but now are shown in monochrome black/white – is this some ridiculous attempt to show non-discrimination for the colour blind ?

4) The 30sec back scrubber button for Podcasts is gone – for no good reason as far as I can see.

5) Chapters (with images) are now gone for podcasts.

Really, does Apple believe this major loss of functionality improves the user experience, or did the designer just forget a whole slab of features to put back into the app? How could Apple get this SO wrong! If I had known it was going to be like this, I simply wouldn't have upgraded. Frakking ****! Fox

These changes are so utterly unintutive and regressive (and really unlike most progressive iterations of iOS) that I think they must be related to what iCloud can and cannot do when managing iTunes content remotely from the cloud. If you are streaming music or audiobooks from the iCloud server perhaps it needs a simplified set of actions. Just a wild guess, as a MobileMe user I'd rather not use iCloud anyway but I guess we'll call this progress. Still want to go back to iOS 4.3…

iOS 5 update has destroyed the functionality of the Music.app that I used primarily for listening to Classical Music and Audio Books.

The noise on the forums is getting louder, and is starting to increase in the tech media.

The Music.app has been changed to such a point that product functionality is so degraded even keeping iOS 5 devices is in question. The Apple eco system seems to have already begun to fragment!
